Are mosquitos in the U.K. a newish thing?

I get bitten really badly. Bites currently the size of small plates and itching like crazy.

But l never remember getting this in Britain prior to 1996. I remember that was quite a hot year and that’s when they seemed to move in on me. I was 32 then.

Or have l become more tasty as I’ve got older?

I think the being dead before he was dug up again probably stopped the itching, even before his head was cut off.

If you Google, there are a few articles on the history of malaria in the UK.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Maybe if he applied a joy teaspoon against his neck it may have rejoined his head? I think l was muddling him up with the other Oliver Cromwell!
Don’t know of another Oliver Cromwell. Thomas maybe?

Or Charles I!

We now have a mosquito net over the bed because we sleep with the French doors open. It’s made a massive difference to the number of bites we’ve had this year, I’m not sure why we’ve never done it before.

Its definitely the case that there are fewer insects. Windscreens used to be covered when you drive along. But I also don’t recall whiney mosquitos when I was younger (born early 70s). Gnats yes, mosquitoes no.

I’ve done the hot spoon thing and the difference has been dramatic!😦.

By now, they would probably have spread to the size of small side plates. And they’ve shrunk and are much less itchy.

This does work too

I remember being bitten to death growing up in a village in the south east in the 70s. My mum is still there and still suffers. Obviously as a family we are tasty! Hardly bitten at all at Uni (big town) or after that in London in my 20s. Now in the countryside in France and there are plenty of bitey things (including tiger mosquitoes apparently). We don't really sit outside in the evenings because of them and have homemade screens on some windows which make a massive difference - they're very easy to make.
