Jesus Christ, I'm on holiday with my mother and VERY close to one of those parent-child divorces

Can you still get one of those in your 30s? Hmm

I've got my kids, my sister's kids and my mother and she's the worst! She cannot sit still Confused

Please do not refer to the Lord like this.

Even though you may have good reasons for reducing contact or going no contact with your mother, or at the very least not going on holiday with her.

freelions · 21/07/2021 20:26

What made you think it was a good idea to go on holiday with your mother?

MotherNaturesBounty · 21/07/2021 20:28

We do normally get on quite well tbh! I think it's just the heat and all being at close quarters Grin

(apologies for any offence)

*Please do not refer to the Lord like this.

In a country which forces religious practises on people because it's 'cultural' people can use the phrase any way they like.

And yes OP, I've had similar holidays problems with mine. Smile and wave.

KittenKong · 21/07/2021 20:32

Pan the kids off on mum? They can entertain each other while you have a nice glass or wine.

He isn't my Lord. I'll use the name any way I like, thanks.

😂 how do you survive on Mumsnet if that offends you?! Or in the real world?!

JohnnyLuLus · 21/07/2021 20:37

My mum came on holiday with us once. We all arrived 4pm on Day 1. She had left by 10am on Day 2!

Bunnyfuller · 21/07/2021 20:38

Wow. That’s some derail!

AntiWorkBrigade · 21/07/2021 20:39

I’m afraid it extends into your 40s and presumably beyond. I find a good argument clears the air. The pattern on holidays with my mum is: weird tension because we ordinarily don’t spend much time together > mismatched holiday expectations become apparent > irritation (me) and hurt feelings (her) > argument > remorse/guilt (me) and silence (her) > discussion > get over it and enjoy holiday.

Best to get all that out of the way on the first day.

MotherNaturesBounty · 21/07/2021 20:40

The kids have been so good. They don't even need palmed off.

Mother does Grin

I would suggest a special day out with grandma for tomorrow/the next available day. This special day out only includes the kids, and what an amazing day they will all have without mummy/auntie Laura around.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/07/2021 20:41

My mum can't sit still. I used to declare I was having a day off. Then I'd have one!

Yes, are you new here, @newnortherner111? You get that Jesus isn’t everyone’s Lord, right?
MotherNaturesBounty · 21/07/2021 20:41

That's a lot of emotional work for one day AntiWorkBrigade! (heh, that's funny).

So, as a matter of interest, how does JesusChristonaFuckingPogoStick, go down?

AntiWorkBrigade obviously has this down to a fine art OP. Take their advice. . . I can help if you're all in the same room and she's got diarrhoea going on the loo, and vomiting into the bidet. . .

OP, friends have found themselves taking up running, quite suddenly, while on holidays with their mothers. One started off so as not to murder her mother on a one-on-one week in Devon and now does triathlons. Grin

mineofuselessinformation · 21/07/2021 20:44

Or, don't do the running (but claim to).
Get all dressed up in the outfit, then go and sit in a nearby cafe for an hour with a tea or coffee...

Soggyday · 21/07/2021 20:44

I thought that was a joke about the Lord. Wouldn't it be the son of God anyway? Holidays can be tense, hang in there.

This is so funny Grin

I am quite happy on the sofa with a book, she will not sit on her arse wanting to go somewhere (we're in a village, there's one main street, there is no where to go).

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/07/2021 20:51

I think there's something about holidays with adult children that triggers some parents.
It's like your parents regress & in their mind you are 6 again not 26:36/46/56 or whatever which is your real age!

Drives you round the bend & back again!
