Privacy curtains for bunk bed?

ForAFriend123 · 21/07/2021 17:36

Temporarily DC are sharing a room with bunk beds. DD 11 will be on the bottom one and younger DS on top.

I want to try and give DD as much privacy as possible so at least she doesn't have to see DS even if she can still hear him!

Have looked online for ideas but all the ready made bunk bed curtains on Amazon look rubbish quality. I'm no good with a sewing machine so looking for recommendations on where else to look.

The bunk beds have an integral ladder on the left longer end.

How old is ds and how long is temporary?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/07/2021 21:28

I made mine and hung them on a wire.

Just buy some curtains, and cut them down. Tape them up with parcel tape and jobs a good ‘in.

You could do a Dunelm made to measure and hang them on a wire.

Dunelm will cut, and sew them you just need to hang them. However cost wise not the cheapest I'd imagine.

Or find a local seamstress/dress maker and ask them to make them. They'd probably knock up a curtain in a few hours.

I made some for mine by sewing a channel in one end and using net curtain wire, hooks and eyes.

Maybe some command strips at points along the top to attach velcro to with a very small piece of material as a tie back around the post. Again held together with velcro.

If the room is big enough could you make it an S shaped bunk bed

CoffeeBeansGalore · 21/07/2021 22:26

Could you use voile panels on a stretchy "net curtain" wire. Hold in place with the screw/hook things if the bunk beds are wooden. That would be relatively easy to negotiate round & behind the ladder. You can get quite pretty ones.

Would these fit?

Curtain pole down the length of the bed (on the ceiling), with a king sheet hung from it and pinned at the sides.

Could you just hang a sheet from under the mattress of the top bed?

LunchWithAGruffalo · 22/07/2021 08:34

We made many a den by tucking a flat sheet or throw under the mattress of the top bunk and letting it hang down. Tucked under the bottom mattress too it stays in place well, but obviously need a gap to get in as it doesn't move.

You can get curtain rings with clips to hold a fabric panel. If you go for something that wont vary, no sewing needed. We used a cheap fleece throw for a curtain under a mid sleeper. Then just run a curtain wire along the length of the top bunk.

Be very careful with any bunk bed adaptations - accidents can happen if they are messing around, fall, get tangled, or a heat source like a light causes the fabric to catch fire.
