My First Tick!

Aaarggh! I'm a 50 year old woman and have just found a tick on my ankle🤢
I had just got out of the bath so it survived a near drowning, it was still wriggling when I knocked it off! Little bastard has now been disposed of.
I've been walking Ddog in local parks and the grass is quite long. Back to socks and trainers and not flip flops I think.
Freaked me out tbhGrin
Will I die? Do I need to do anything?
Yes i know I'm a wuss🤣

@rbe78 ticks in yer bits doesn't sound funšŸ˜†
I reckon this tick must have lived on me all night😱 I walked the dog at 9pm last night, had a shower before bed and had another shower this morning, that's when I spotted it.
They give me the creeps!

Unfortunately you will die, however probably not from this tick bite

ActiveMilk · 21/07/2021 18:27

Would IBU to go to a vet to have it removed if I ever had one? Blush

Op Thanks horrendous. Glad you sorted it.

I am so paranoid about ticks. I didn't realise you could get them in a park or garden though 😱 I thought it was only on the fells.

The theory is that if a tick is on you for less than 24 hours then it shouldn't have time to transmit any nasty diseases. The longer it's on you, the higher the likelihood you'll get sick.

Where I live, we check ourselves all over at least daily for attached ticks.

Any animal can carry them, so hedgehogs, mice, rats, foxes...... we never have deer in the garden, but have a big field out front, so all the other little mammals bring them into the garden.

To the pp who sprays the garden for ticks!!!! Doesn't that kill anything and everything, assume you are not in the UK.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 22/07/2021 12:47

I have a garden full of bees right now, so no, spraying doesn’t kill everything.

Urgh, commiserations!

But did anyone else open this thread thinking it was like the worst baby board book recommendation ever? Grin

GCAcademic · 22/07/2021 16:53

šŸ˜€ I imagine there would be a whole series of them, KrakowDawn

The o’Tom tick remover is the best if found. Your one looks quite plump so it must have had a nice feed. When you use the tick remover, have a bit of sellotape handy to trap it in. Then you can just put the tape in the bin. They are so rank I can’t believe they exist.

All night is OK. Horrible thought but not dangerous.

More than 48 hours is a potential concern.

Loving the book names!šŸ˜€

I'm still alive! No rash, feel fine.

TobyLicious · 24/07/2021 10:34

So, today I have woken up feeling awful, headache, sore throat, generally achy and bleh......I've done a lateral flow test just incase, and it's negative.
I also think I have a faint rash on the bite site.....what do you guys think?
Apparently it's quite rare to actually catch Something from a tick so I don't really know what to think. (Excuse the pale hairy legšŸ˜€)
Typically is Saturday so i can't phone the GPConfused

I bloody love ticks. My boys each have a day at forest school a week (well, did until the school broke up) and post forest school tick removal was an absolute highlight. 5yo had 12 a few weeks ago despite wearing long sleeves and trousers!

TobyLicious · 24/07/2021 10:49

12 Ticks!
I guess it's OK if you get them straight out. I have no idea how long this one was here, at least all night, maybe 24 hours?! It survived at least one shower.

OP posts:
SwanShaped · 25/07/2021 18:41

I’d phone th GP tomorrow. How is it now?

TobyLicious · 28/07/2021 20:50

I did phone the GP as I still feel ill,
She said the antibodies for lymes don't show in the blood until 4 weeks after the bite.
I've had no real rash, and wonder if I've just got a head cold/virus. I've had a negative covid test, my temp yesterday was 38.1
GP said to phone back next week if I still feel unwell and she will discuss antibiotics.

OP posts:
ZZTopGuitarSolo · 28/07/2021 21:03

That's a shame. Where I live (where Lyme is very prevalent) they don't wait for the blood test if you have had a tick bite, and feel unwell or have a rash. Just straight onto antibiotics.

TobyLicious · 28/07/2021 21:11

The GP was reading up on it as I was on the phoneHmm I'm actually in a high prevalent area!
The reason she was undecided is because I have a sore throat and that's not on the symptom list.

@30degreesandmeltinghere blimey our dogs get them all the time! Honestly with the tick tool it's fine and nothing for your dog to worry about

Hmmmmm... My dog got anaplasmosis from a tick bite. He needed three vet visits, two lots of medication, two saline drips, and he spent about 2 weeks just shaking and not eating.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 28/07/2021 21:30

Vet told me if no symptoms in 10 days ddog was obviously fine...
