Can anybody identify this bird's egg?

DD has found it in the garden, it is still intact and not damaged at all. Must have only recently arrived in our garden as was definitely not there yesterday, I have had a look around and cannot see any nearby nests.

Does anyone know what type of egg it is and if it is likely to hatch? DD has put it under a lamp in her bedroom for now. Should we contact a bird rescue?

Is it a wood pigeon . The RSPB have a egg identify website. It could have been dropped by some other larger bird
.

We found an egg in the garden, against the bottom of a tree. Definitely not fallen out of a nest, as it was in a bit of a scrape . We get lots of pheasants in the garden so thought it was probably from them. Have you had pheasants in your garden perhaps ?

Years ago, my brother put an abandoned duck's egg in the airing cupboard (on a hot water bottle). It did eventually try to hatch but died - I suspect it was too hot.
If you want to give it a go, I think you need to turn the egg round a bit at intervals so it isn't always on the same side. Not very likely to hatch but, if it does, very difficult to hand feed one of the pigeon family. I picked up a fledgling collared dove two or three years ago and found I had to feed it "pigeon milk" or, I think, hard boiled egg yolk at a pinch, but would be likely to choke it by feeding it by dropper - apparently they stick their beaks into parent's mouth and feed that way. After 15 hours, I called the local vet and one of the vet nurses took it on, as she had some experience with feeding lost nestlings. I never liked to ask how it got on as suspect it died and I was quite bonded to it by then!).

Probably pigeon unless you by fields and country in which case possibly pheasant.

Ah thank you, much more likely to be a dove than a pheasant I would say from where we are. Would love to hand rear but sounds so complicated! If it starts to show any signs of hatching I will get in touch with my Uncle who has handreared all sorts of birds in the past, he had a jackdaw who was very attached to him years ago Grin.

Thanks all.
