Have you ever tasted traditional home-cooked food from a foreign household in your neighbourhood ? How was it ?

The closest I get to this is when one of my Pakistani workmates brings in generous samples of his Mum's own-recipe pakoras and bhajis. They are a world away from anything you could buy in a British supermarket. One time, after Ramadan, he brought in an enormous catering pot of chicken biryani for our night shift. Made with saffron and hard-boiled eggs, it lasted us two nights and was incredibly tasty and fragrant. Fantastic. Sometimes, I wish I had neighbours or workmates from Italy, France, Thailand, India or anywhere else with exotic cuisine.

I have little doubt that foreign cuisine restaurants in the UK are sufficiently authentic but when the nosh is from family recipes and is lovingly prepared for free, there is extra charm!

I have been a nanny to both a Hungarian family and an Indian family. Wouldn't have cared if I had got zero wage tbh! The snacks were amazing!! Felt very priveliged to have sampled some amazing new dishes first hand - and not from a restaurant!

Yes, my neighbour is an excellent cook and often shares his dishes. Especially around Ramadan where he says he cooks to take his mind off fasting (willpower of steel, I couldn't do it!)

His food is lighter and less greasy than takeaways, and very good.

Yes. I have had vegetable with mushroom soup from my polish neighbours and a cream fruit cake from my neighbours from Georgia.

I worked with a lady from the Philippines and was invited to her DC's Christening, which her family and friends catered themselves.

I've no idea what the dishes were called but it was all amazing

She also used to bring empenadas (sp?) that her sister made to work to share. They were yellow pastry, not sure what gave the colour, filled with pork, cheese, raisins/sultanas, various veg and spices. Absolutely glorious.

Sort of. My neighbour is American (I also happen to be American by birth) and he invited everyone around for Thanksgiving every year. It's lovely to have food that is like what I grew up with. That said, dh and I used to live in India (we aren't Indian) and it's so hard to find actual Indian food in the UK because everything in the restaurants is awful. I have a work colleague who brings in samosas and bhajis to all work events because they are vegan for all the vegans. Brings me right back. They're amazing. I love food. I'd be very happy to eat all sorts of neighbourly food if offered!

I've had Bollo Misto made by an Italian family. Was friends with an Indian couple and her food was fantastic.

My neighbours have given me food.
One family are Indian and sent round a beautiful lamb biryani at the end of Ramadan. It was amazing.
We also have a Chinese family on our street and have been round for dinner, which was wonderful. She invites me for tea and snacks sometimes too and they are v delicious.
