What on earth is this on dd's skin?

It appeared to be a bug bite and was v itchy and a bit raised and then disappeared entirely for a few days, then was itchy and raised again, then disappeared and now it's back.

It's around the size of a 2p piece, raised and very itchy indeed. It feels quite hard to the touch.

What on earth is this on dd's skin?

Looks like a sting by a horsefly to me. Nasty fuckers they are!

funtimefrank · 20/07/2021 19:15

Urgh poor love. Agree re horsefly. Hate them with a passion and have scratched myself to tears around the lump.

wigjuice · 20/07/2021 19:15

Looks like horsefly, nasty horrible beggers. I got bitten 30 years ago twice on my back, I can still see the scars.

But it's been a few weeks and has completely come and gone twice in that time. A horse fly bite wouldn't do that surely? And it's not painful at all, just v v itchy.

Might be a hive? I've had one appear and disappear in the same place for months. Looks exactly like that. Not an official diagnoses but seemed likely from Dr Google

alexdgr8 · 20/07/2021 19:24

take them to a chemists.

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:25

Her little brother is quite hivey and will get outbreaks sometimes, less frequently as he gets older. But his are usually gone within a few hours. It does look quite like a hive tbh. Just very localised and singular. She's got very sensitive skin but more excema than hives so she is prone to allergic reactions.

Do you use anything to calm the itch pigeon?

@alexdgr8

take them to a chemists.
I will do tomorrow but thought I'd garner some opinions on here tonight.

Could be the beginning of the herald patch for pityriasis rosea? Looks like the right size, shape and place.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 20/07/2021 19:29

I was going to say a herald patch too for pityriasis rosea. Dd has had it a couple of times. Though I think the typical place for a herald patch is on the back. If it is that then the rest will be along soon.

AvaCallanach · 20/07/2021 19:30

My herald patch back in the day was just in that place - under boobs.

SpamIAm · 20/07/2021 19:31

Just looks like a hive to me. I get them that come and go in the same place for a period of time from days up to months.

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:32

I'm not sure about pityriasis rosea as that's described as scaly, usually non itchy and the rest of the rash usually follows within a few days.

This first appeared a few weeks ago and dd has only just mentioned it again, confirming that it entirely disappeared twice. It's entirely smooth and incredibly itchy.

I thought hives were reddish.

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:35

@Changethetoner

I thought hives were reddish.
Nope. DS's hives are always white.

What washing detergent to you use?

We had raised red patches like this but more of it. Really freaky to lol at went A&E

It was ECover detergent, rash stopped after we stopped using it

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:39

We never, ever change our detergent as dd is allergic to everything bar Persil Non Bio. Its too localised to be an allergy to that as well as usually she gets an excema type rash all over.

True this was all over

Lol - look

RavenclawsRoar · 20/07/2021 19:41

Can she have an antihistamine? When I get bitten it looks like this, and they do come and go - almost heal but then flare up again. I have absolutely no idea why, but it's very annoying. An antihistamine a day usually sorts it out.

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:46

DH is out right now so will get him to pick up an antihistamine on his way back. We've run out of the liquid stuff we had for last time DS was itchy.

Could be urticaria from the heat. I had it once as a child (although it came up all over my body, rather than in just one spot). I'd see if Piriton and calamine help?

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 19:49

I get urticaria from heat AND cold. It's horrible and so SO itchy. It could be that. I do get it around my midriff where my bra sits.

Ivy48 · 20/07/2021 19:53

I don’t think it’s pityriasis rosea as looks too raised an no ‘ring’ effect when I had it mine was very red
In the centre and angry looking but flat. Looks like hives/bite. I have had a horse fly bite that’s flared up on and off for a few weeks.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/07/2021 19:55

Looks like hives to me. Try some Piriton.
