Did anyone actually crave pickles when they were pregnant?

There's the slimmest chance ever that I'm pregnant and it would not really be a good thing if I was.
Today I cannot stop eating pickles I've eaten a whole jar and then had to find something else pickled this evening (beet root) because I was craving it so strongly.
I'm thinking it's probably the heat?

What weird pregnancy things did you crave? I didn't have any craving with previous pregnancies either so thinking it's not...

Piccalilli and raw carrots for me 🤣

DonLewis · 19/07/2021 20:41

Proper hula hoops (not the supermarket own brand ones), ready salted and red coke. Together. That was first trimester.

Second was Pani Puri. The tamarind makes them a bit sour, so maybe that explains it.

Third trimester was ice. All the ice. And iced water. I used to fill one pint glass with just ice and another with iced water. Now I know it was because my iron was low. At the time, all I knew was I had to have the ice.

I'm definitely not pregnant and I'm craving pickles. I've just chopped up some baby cucumbers and put some Tesco Firepit pickled red onions over them. I often crave pickled things, especially in hot weather.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get the result that you want.

Strong flavours was my go to, mustard, pickles, marmite, Worcestershire sauce, oh & for some reason hash browns!

I saw your title and had a flashback to 39 years ago OP when I was pregnant, and yes, I had a whopping addiction to that luminous green Envy (

Justme10 · 19/07/2021 21:16

Pickles and pickled onion crisps for the first half of pregnancy then different chocolate bars Grin

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 19/07/2021 21:24

I dont know whether mine was a craving. I ate a lot of cheddar biscuits, but only at work. Then they moaned because I was eating at my printer, so I switched to raspberry jam sarnies and ate them in the canteen.
I also drank copious amounts of peach tea.

Evenstar · 19/07/2021 21:36

Beetroot and red cabbage with one of mine, it was the vinegar

WrongWayApricot · 19/07/2021 21:36

I had the opposite, had an intense aversion of anything in/with vinegar. Walking past the deli counter was horrible. I really craved lemon water though, just fizzy water and a lemon slice was like the best thing to me. Squeezing in lemon juice was too much lemon though, it had to be just right 😅

Vodkabulary · 19/07/2021 21:41

Well I craved McDonald’s burger / cheese burger and realised it was for the pickles! I’ve never liked their burgers before. Chicken nugget girl until I die Smile

With DS1 I was OBSESSED with cheese and onion crips (which is never liked much before) and scotch eggs but only the scotch eggs they sold at mu work canteen

With DS2 it was McDonald’s burgers for the pickles and olives I’d eat them by the packet load. So glad Asda had a 3
For 2 so I could stock up

With DD it was crunchy cheese Cheetos

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/07/2021 21:41

Only time in my life I didn’t, I bloody love pickles, but the heartburn was crippling and I had to swear off anything acidic or spicy. DD is obsessed with them at 2, I limit her to protect her tooth enamel or she’d do a jar a day.

I ate cherry yogurt when I was pregnant, 3 big tubs a week. Thankfully it was on sale the entire 9 months Grin

Best of luck OP. You never know!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/07/2021 21:43

Cheese and pickle sandwiches was my second craving.

GravityFalls · 19/07/2021 21:45

I did AND I craved McDonald’s so much. And lemon San Pelligrino because it was the only drink sour enough.

ClaudiaWinklepants · 19/07/2021 21:52

Yes, huge big jars of pickled onions, I'd eat them one by one then drink the juice BlushStarted off with my cravings very early on in the pregnancy and it faded away by 20 weeks.

Second pregnancy was cherries - the fruit and air fresheners and lip balm. That one lasted pretty much up to the end of the pregnancy.

Stickytreacle · 19/07/2021 21:59

Pickled onions for me, I ate massive jars of the things in one sitting. Went right off sausages though! Grin

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 19/07/2021 22:03

i was going through a BIG jar of sliced beetroot every damned day, dh would bring it home, they lady in the co op kept it aside for him, I would eat it with a fork AND drink the juice.

I have always liked beetroot but this was out of control!

One single day thought it was Pineapple Cottage Cheese, we had to divert into Asda buy the biggest tub I could find and I tipped it into my mouth direct from the tub cos we had no cutlery in the car. Never eaten cottage cheese since. Not once in 29 years.

Totallydefeated · 19/07/2021 22:03

Yep, I was obsessed with New Green pickled cucumbers - they were the only ones that would do. They're quite hard to get hold of unless you live in a Jewish neighbourhood, so my Dad took a major trip around London to get me some!

TheTempest · 19/07/2021 22:06

Mine was cleaning products, washing up liquid and washing powder. The smell and o allowed myself one drop a day Confused

GalaxyGirl24 · 19/07/2021 22:07

Nothing weird just really wanted a cheap ham sandwich!

Doona · 19/07/2021 22:09

Yes! Sauerkraut! I was obsessed with it.

Landslidelife · 19/07/2021 22:13

Olives - had to be green pitted. Ate whole jars at a time.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/07/2021 22:26

Mine was salt and vinegar crisps, or even better (because stronger) hula hoops.

Crayfishforyou · 19/07/2021 22:28

@girlmama32

Yes pickled beetroot, also craved prawn cocktail crisps, crushed ice and sponges 😂
I couldn’t eat anything spicy, tangy or sour. I had heartburn really badly. But sponges OMG Sponges I went through three of them. DH came into the bathroom once and I was sat in the bath just sucking one blissfully. And I felt a total weirdo, I can’t believe I’ve found someone else who craved sponges!
Unescorted · 19/07/2021 22:33

Pregnancy was an excuse to eat pickles. If eating habits were related to pickles I would still be pregnant. Cravings were Tomato soup with sour cream and my own body weight in black pepper. I hate tomato soup now.

nc8765 · 19/07/2021 22:40

Nope.

For me it was: big fat greasy burgers with big beef patties and bacon and loads of cheese and grease, and litres and litres of chocolate milk.
