Transitions lenses - total no go for 42 year old?

I have eyes that are very sensitive to light and I wear glasses all the time. I’m always losing or forgetting my sunglasses (plus prescription ones cost a fortune). I know transitions lenses are probably the answer but I can’t quite bring myself to get them.

Would they be really frumpy? Has anyone got them and happy with them? Do they change quickly and totally when you’re indoors?

Other problem is I’m ginger so usually wear light weight or pale frames which might look a bit odd in sunglasses mode.

Anyone got any thoughts?

@Roselilly36

They are a popular choice for many. Just bear in mind that you will need prescription specs for driving, as most windscreens have a uv coating so the transition lenses won’t work.
I nearly bought some before realising this.

@HugoToWin mine still have a slight tint when driving. Return to clear when completely out of the sun. I don’t need sunglasses to drive anymore.

OP asda do 2 pairs of glasses for £120... A bit more expensive for designer... And yes that's with any tints, thinner lenses etc.

I have a - 8 prescription and am now in varifocals but it's still the same cost... So I buy one pair of glasses and one sunglasses

I think they're very aging. Like you the only know people I know with them are older 60 + I personally wouldn't wear them.

I had some but never again. At work in offices and meeting rooms with natural light coming in windows people found it weird & unsettling that they couldn't see my eyes so I had to have my normal glasses with me anyway.

I also found they they were never dark enough despite explicitly asking for darkest tint possible. I'm very light sensitive and wear my prescription sunnies all the time even when it's overcast but a bit glarey. Also didn't transition fast enough especially back to clear so I was walking about unable to see properly in darker places for example going into a Tube station from being outside was a particular hassle.

And on the style front, unless you get a chunkier 'sunglasses' style frame they do look quite frumpy to me. And a 65+ year old male friend still has them and I do think they look a bit creepy on him.

I now wear my prescription sunnies with a sports style lycra strap for round my neck, and normal glasses in my bag. A bit of a hassle to repeatedly swap but only way it works for me.
