Trolls

Following on from the thread that was just deleted where a troll posted their 15 year old DS died.
How do mumsnet verify that a story definitely isn't true? I posted a message of support on that post and then saw that mumsnet posted the story is false.
How do they know for sure?

Posting history I guess. Where stories don’t add up.

I was suspicious immediately I’m afraid. No one whose child has died asks for other peoples ‘stories’. But when I Advance searched the OP they had been posting or commenting about their ‘family’ for quite some time - the ages etc sort of added up so I just ignored it but yeah, not surprised. I didn’t go back to it so I guess their trolling posting style ramped up and quickly escalated did it?

I saw that in active. Quite relieved it’s a troll.

It’s a need to make connections with people I suppose - very sad and strange.

misssunshine4040 · 19/07/2021 16:42

I don't think they commented on the post again.
It just seems such a sensitive topic and think how can they be so sure it's outright not true in such a short space of time.
Revolting that people make up this stuff though.

maybe it was a pbp

ParkheadParadise · 19/07/2021 17:15

I'm always suspicious of posts like that.
I've lost a child in tragic circumstances. There was NO way I could have been physically or mentally able to start a thread about it on MN at the time. I stayed in my bed for weeks with the duvet over my head.

You need to be a sick bastard to make up threads about losing your child.

roguetomato · 19/07/2021 17:24

I haven't seen the thread, but if the topic was very sensitive and HQ deleted as troll thread, they must have good reason to believe so.

greatestdancer · 19/07/2021 17:26

Maybe by looking through their posting history/if they’re a pbp

YippeeKiYay155 · 19/07/2021 17:28

How terrible to make up something like that. That post was on my mind all morning as I have a similar age DC who has been struggling abit lately. Just awful.

AndSoFinally · 19/07/2021 18:01

I'm not sure. I've had a couple of threads deleted "while Mumsnet checks behind the scenes" but have never been contacted by Mumsnet and actually asked anything 🤷🏻
