We are going to London next week - DH has booked us some tickets to visit the Science Museum we have 2 young DC one in reception - He loves learning.
Is it suitable for young children - The website is hard to navigate to find out what they actually have - Some of the pictures make it look a bit more aimed at adults.
I visited one in Bristol years ago and I seem to remember it was quite fun and aimed at younger people?

The best part is the paid part upstairs is that what he got tickets for?
The lab...
(unfortunately they re did it and its actually not quite as good as it was before)

It’s not has hands on as the Bristol one (which is incredible and on my list to do as soon as this bollocks has died down).
There are parts that are hands on and some aimed more at adults. It’s still brilliant and worth a trip with children.

Natural history museum have some great hands on science body bits, but I’m not sure if they are still open at the moment.

I went recently with my 7 year old and it was great, downstairs is the planet/space bit which was really popular, then we had a booked (free) activity, some sensory "pattern pod" thing which DS loved, and the other best bit was upstairs where there were loads of interactive games and screens (also free). We didn't pay for any of it. There was also a "garden" which was water play, try and get tickets for that as well, again it was free.

It's excellent for young children. After a visit about three years ago to the photography exhibition at the Natural History Museum I spent a few minutes in the Science Museum, and it has been updated and is great compared to when I was a child.

We wanted to go to there but unfortnatly they only had afternoon tickets and the day we are going is the day we are coming back to Dorset so wasn't an option! Hopefully we can go again soon.

He said something about tickets for a garden? I am not sure what he's booked! The bristol one was amazing but that was many many years ago but I think I should try it again!

Thank you, I am sure DS will love it any way!

No it's not as hands on as the one in Bristol, but nonetheless still definitely worth a visit and I'm sure they will enjoy it :)

BBUB - I think the garden thing is what he's booked - I am going to check his email in a minute and see what he's actually booked!
That sounds really good! Thank you!

Not a patch on We The Curious in Bristol.
I find the Science Museum a bit boring if I’m honest!

Thegirlwithnousername · 19/07/2021 10:44

Just had a look at the email -
He got us tickets to the garden - Which from Bbub sounds perfect for what they will enjoy too!

The Garden in the basement is great for little ones although the 20 minute sessions are too short. Wonderlab on the 3rd floor is great for ages 4+, loads of hands on interactives as well as live science shows. It's paid for but worth the cost. The galleries are less hands on. The other spot is the pattern pod which I think also has to be pre-booked and is free.

Human Biology at NHM which the PP mentioned is closed long term now for refurbishment.

Random nostalgia - I went to school across the road from the NHM (literally, you walked out of our schools doors, across the pedestrian crossing on Cromwell and into the main entrance of the NHM) and must have gone once a fortnight for about 6 years. Everything I know about human reproduction came from that exhibition!
