DPs mum worried about Covid

My dp's mum is really worried about catching Covid. She's been double jabbed and luckily hasn't had Covid yet but she refuses to do even little things like go to the doctors surgery for an injury because she's scared of catching it.

Totally understand why she and everyone else is scared when so many people have died and are still dying from it. Apart from maybe damaging her own health by avoiding the doc, she also says things that make me and the kids start to get anxious. We have had our share of difficulties since Covid and we are careful about everything but want to safely start enjoying life again while we can, especially now we've been double jabbed.

When dp mentions we went to the park or took the kids out for food she says shes worried we'll catch it and should stay home. She also says frequently that we should be really worried about our kids future - which we are anyway and don't really need a reminder.

The main problem is she complains that there's nothing to do in life - which lots of people have felt during lockdown - but without taking a risk its pretty hard to do anything enjoyable!

Any ideas how to help her? Of course Covid is still a big risk so its hard to calm her or know what to say.

I would find that incredibly draining and I’m not sure I’d be looking to help her, but rather just pulling right back from spending time with her. I wouldn’t want my kids influenced by that. I know it’s easier said than done though.

Sympathies: my parents won’t see us (or anyone else so it’s not just an excuse Grin) despite us all being double jabbed (except our youngest who will be in 10 days).
They are waiting until this “is over”. In reality, that theoretically means we may not seem them again.

No advice on how to ease your in-laws’ minds. Will follow this with interest.
