Sandwich fillings/packed lunch in the heat?

We have a couple of days out booked in the summer which will require being out all day and taking a packed lunch to carry with us. Hopefully it will be cooler by then. But if not, please can I have your tips about what food survives best after a few hours in the heat? I’m thinking cucumber/tomatoes/apples would be ok. No chocolate. Crisps etc fine obviously. But what about sandwich fillings? Cheese will likely be melty and gross. Meat/eggs I would be worried (probably unreasonably) about going off. Jam too sickly in the heat. Or not sandwiches at all? Warm lettuce doesn’t appeal…

Why not put it in a cool bag with an ice pack? I do this with kids' packed lunches (they each have a small cool bag).

You need a picnic bag/rucksack with those little frozen squares inside. They're brilliant, you'll be able to pack most foods/drinks.

Will an ice pack really work, even in this heat?

We pack individual salads and add small chunks of cooked chicken that has been frozen so it defrosts through the day.

Ice packs plural and bottles of frozen water too, get them out half hour before you stop and they'll be so lovely to drink!

We tend to do salads, like tabbouleh, pasta, cous cous. Just don't forget the sporks!

Freeze your water bottles overnight the night before. Pack them around food. They'll keep it cool. You can also freeze sliced meat. If it's this hot it will defrost by the time it comes to making sandwiches.
I grew up in hot summers and lunches had a lot muffins, again frozen the night before, would defrost in our lunch box by school break time.

Peanut butter is a good sandwich filling in the heat.

Recently went to Chester zoo with a picnic. 2 large and 2 small ice packs in a cooler bag rucksack kept our packed lunch (including ham sandwiches) and numerous drinks cold from 6am to lunch and continued to keep the remaining snacks/drinks cool until we got back you the car

YY to freezing bottles of water and putting them in your bag. Two in one!
