Ive literally never seen so many.... I liberated some pots from under the shrubs and when I separated them the flipping slugs were huuuuuge! Like bloody huge green gherkins..... I feel queasy now....
I think my garden is a super-colony for these slimy horrors......

We have massive ones too! You can see their horrible texture. A big lumpy green one had an orange rim around the edge of its underneath.
I have contemplated nematodes but I can’t decide if it’s just cruel, it digests them from the inside so it sounds a horrible way to go.

No nice way to kill slugs. Was told sprinkling salt on them turns them inside out!😢

RoseAndGeranium · 18/07/2021 18:03

Slug traps that drown them in beer? It’s not how I’d choose to go but with luck they’ll be so tiddled they won’t grasp the horror.
I use the organic ferric phosphate slug pellets. I don’t think it’s a very nice ending but they work, they don’t harm anything else, and the slugs creep off after ingestion so you don’t have to clear up their yucky bodies and trails of slime.

RoseAndGeranium · 18/07/2021 18:04

If I find them when I’m gardening I throw them in the compost heap rather than killing them, though. They’re very useful there!

Just bumping the thread.

Omg I've so many in my garden never seen so many. It's usually snails but not this year.

I am flinging them over the fence to some waste land behind but they keep coming.
Can't put poison down, as have dogs.

When will they stop ??!

CoraPirbright · 19/08/2021 09:26

Try a large melon peel on the grass. The bastards go mad for it and will be all over it in the night. In the morning (if you can stomach it) pick the peel up, slugs and all, into a poo bag and into the bin!

PeonyTime · 19/08/2021 09:32

My parents slug problem rapidly disappeared when they installed a pond that attracted frogs. Can you do anything to encourage more natural slug predators to the garden?

Galassia · 19/08/2021 09:58

Cut them in half with scissors. Instant death.

PlanDeRaccordement · 19/08/2021 10:02

Make your garden hedgehog friendly and a local hedgehog will move in and eat all the slugs for you.

To tackle snails put out a hanging bird feeder with seed and a concrete bird bath. The birds the feeder attracts will eat the snails by cracking them open on the bird bath.

Always best to work with nature and try and have your garden follow a more natural ecosystem approach.

No. No I will not do that. Grin

Paulinna · 19/08/2021 10:04

Order some nematodes in the post. They’ll get rid of the slugs.

Bsmirched · 19/08/2021 10:12

Hedgehogs only eat slugs as an absolute last resort and they are actually really bad for them as they carry lungworm.

TheQueef · 19/08/2021 10:15

We've got hordes of the fat orange fuckers this year it's giant ones Sad
I want a duck.

thesunwillout · 19/08/2021 11:11

Oh a duck would be my dream.

Can't have a bird feeder, as we have a cat.

They're just partying all over the lawn.

I'll look into the suggestions.

Eve · 19/08/2021 11:37

They are fat as they have eaten all my plants!

They are carnivorous slugs. They eat other slugs that would eat your plants!
