Where are all the jobs for teenagers?

My son (16) has been looking for a summer job (part time or full time, happy to do most things, any hours) but has only seen 5 or 6 jobs that are any good and hasn't heard from them so far. He's been looking on indeed

So many people keep asking if he's applied for jobs, hospitality is crying out for staff apparently but where are these jobs? Are we looking in the wrong place? If your teenager has a job, where is it and how did they get it???

I recall one year when my son filled out a long application for a campsite only to be told he was under 16 so they couldn't hire him! He was telling our neighbour about it, and the neighbour gave him work clearing his garden! He ended up with about 100 hours work!

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful.

And just to co firm, he's definitely asking and applying himself - I will not be doing that for him! At work I have parents calling on behalf of their kids (who are stood with them next to the phone) and it's embarassing to be honest! Some of them are 20 year olds 😮

@MrsJBaptiste waitrose (and probably other supermarkets) tend to start looking soon as their current year 13s tell them their uni plans. My son got a job there last summer and started in the September doing 10 hours a week, we just had to keep watching the website I'm afraid. Pay there is great as it's not age based.

I too would agree to avoid any chains and ask at independents, especially hospitality as many may be taking extras on due to problems with staff isolating.

I suggested this before on another thread but it is worth him doing the level 1 & 2 food hygiene and safety in catering course. You can do it online in a day for £20 or so. Just shows employers that they have basic knowledge in these areas which is quite important if dealing with food.

My cousin's 16 year olds were picking fruit and working on a farm. Now one of them works in a local (non-chain) restaurant.

Also, I used to clean caravans at 15.
