Sunday courier pickup - do they exist?

Basically, I have effed up and kept hold of a railcard that I should have given to my DH today so that he can bring the kids back from his parents on Monday on the train. His prebooked train tickets need the railcard to be valid, and that railcard is with me, 200 miles away.

Is there any way to send the card this evening/tomorrow morning so that it gets to him by Monday lunchtime in time for his and the kids' train home at 2pm?

Googling doesn't seem throw up any options for Saturday night/Sunday morning pickups that give next morning delivery. Has anyone found/used a courier service that will do this?

You could use a sameday courier like CitySprint but it won't be cheap, they'll charge you mileage like a taxi does.

I know Hermes do Sunday collections but only from big account customers. Might be worth putting the details into Parcel Monkey or someone like that to see if you can find anywhere.

Are there any options with the rail company - could you ring them and ask if they'll accept a photograph, or issue a temporary rail pass at the station?

Thanks. ParcelMonkey only give options for Tuesday deliveries, which is too late. I'll try asking LNER if they have any suggestions.

Is there a way of getting him a digital railcard on an app or in his phone wallet?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/07/2021 19:02

My son has his railcard on his phone. Is it the Friends & Family one?

ChickenHeadDuckFeet · 17/07/2021 19:09

Yes, F&F railcard but a hard copy one. I've Tweeted at the Railcards Twitter account to see if the hard copy card can be made digital for him to use on Monday. Don't know if anyone monitors that account Saturday/Sunday though.

They replied quickly, but it's not good news:
"Hi, if you hold a physical Railcard you wouldn't be able to upload it on a device simultaneously. Your husband would have to travel with full fare tickets if he doesn't have the valid Railcard with him during the journey. Thanks"

You can definitely change it as I did it with my old one. You have to log into your account online and get a code to input into the app

blinkthreetimes · 17/07/2021 19:13

If it doesn’t work I would just send him a picture or get him to FaceTime you when the tickets are checked

ChickenHeadDuckFeet · 17/07/2021 19:18

That's interesting, thanks. They make it seem like the hard copy and digital types of railcard are completely separate, and one can't be changed to the other, but I will try to change the hard copy card to a digital one on their website just now. Thanks for the tip.

@blinkthreetimes The Twitter account has just told me that physical railcards are definitely not transferable, so that's interesting that you were able to do it. I can't see anywhere on their website for how to do it either. Was it an existing, still valid physical card that you transferred to digital, or an expired one, if you don't mind me asking?

Would it not be feasible to buy another railcard at the station just before he travels? Might be cheaper than getting it couriered.

ChickenHeadDuckFeet · 17/07/2021 19:38

DH is just going to buy a digital railcard for £30 for Monday. LNER and Railcards folks both say there is no way to make an existing physical railcard into a digital one for this journey. Ho hum...
