I'm interviewing our first candidate later. She has met the children but that was all a bit chaotic.

So - what would you ask?

What is her experience with children
What qualification does she have
Has she done any training eg first aid, safeguarding
Is she on the update for dbs and would her dbs be clear
Does she have any holidays booked
Can she give 2 references you can speak to

Great thanks- I think I know all that apart from references so thats a good start

You need to see how she feels about the things that matter to you - diet, activities, sleep (if she's responsible for those things)

That's one entirely personal to you and what matters most really. My priority would be the formal stuff i.e. getting references, checks, details of her background and experience but that aside I'd want to know about her personally, what she's like and whether she's good for making dens, having fun and dossing in the house / playing Nerf wars with kids and dogs etc.

When ours were little we were the sort of parents that literally got ourself decked out and fully stocked with ammo then burst in and blasted the kids with every last tag so they looked like orange hedgehogs. Still have mass fights now they're in their 20's.

It's really down to whatever you are looking for her to do on a regular basis and the type of day to day stuff that'll be needed.
