Minecraft 'secret admirer'

JustcameoutGC · 16/07/2021 22:38

My 6 y.o. plays Minecraft on a tablet, generally in creation mode, and on her own with no interaction with other players.
We have removed everything from the tablet except games like Minecraft that have at least some creative or educational angle.

Today she said she had a message from a secret admirer, and they traded diamonds. This totally freaked me out. We took the tablet off her immediately. My DP is the gamer and he said it might have been something within the game. Has anyone heard of anything about secret admirers within the game of Minecraft? Sorry if my expressions are quite right gaming is not my thing.

She must be playing the multiplayer version which is what allows others to interact with her.

It is possible to play the single player version.

6 is too young to be open to locals in your area who can message. When she's older she will want to play the multi version as she will interact with her friends but this age? NOPE!

Your DH should have told you this. Here's an explanation

Singleplayer
No one can join the player’s game and no
one can contact you through the Minecraft
chat.

Multiplayer (Local and Remote)
Players can join any game they want, public
or private. Players can also see, speak and
interact with others, whether they are
friends or strangers.
‘Local’ means players who are on the same
local area network (LAN).
‘Remote’ means either a private server
(purchased and/or hosted by a Minecraft
server hosting company) or a public server
(accessible by anyone).
You can have a rich and rewarding M

My DD has confirmed that this is a human, not a feature of the game.

She also says that there is dating in Minecraft, and that your DD is too young to be playing the multiplayer version. Apparently I didn’t allow my DD to play multiplayer until she was 11, but I don’t really have any memory of the details.

Totally agree, 6 is waaaaayyy too young, to be interacting with anyone online. I thought we had it locked down, but I don't know alot about Minecraft.

It turns out it wasn't a message bubble, it was a wooden sign actually in the game. She was playing in creative mode, which we thought was always single player mode.

There are different worlds that you can download in marketplace. Could it have been on one of those? The world creator could have made one of those signs, and a village to trade with or something.

That might be it, but I would have thought the game makers would know better than to have them appear as secret admirers.
