Well an excerpt

“X has made adequate progress this year due to her lack of effort applying herself. She is capable of achieving so much more. I hope X uses her potential to make better progress next year”

She’s 6.

Not sure if I should laugh or cry 🤣

I couldn't let that go, OP.

Glad you're writing an email.

Always bear in mind that Sir John Gurdon, winner of the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine received a school report for biology that said “Disastrous…I believe he has ideas about becoming a scientist…On his present showing this is quite ridiculous; if he can’t learn simple biological facts he would have no chance of doing the work of a specialist, and it would be a sheer waste of time, both on his part, and of those who have to teach him”.

What did you say in the email?

I really can't understand some of the comments on this thread calling the teacher a bitch etc.

In one of your first updates, you said that the report was mostly positive eg saying that your dd is bright, well behaved and popular.

You said in another update that she is a fluent reader but that's completely irrelevant unless you genuinely believe that only children who struggle at school need to focus and work hard.

The teacher has clearly identified that your dd has a lot of potential so that's yet another positive comment. But she isn't achieving as much as she's capable of. To me, that's a polite way of saying that she's lazy, a chatterbox or both.

You seem to gloss over the positive comments and obsess over the comments giving areas for improvement. Are teachers only allowed to give completely uncritical, positive reports? How is that helpful?
