What colours, furnishings etc do you think make a bedroom relaxing?

Mine's not and I'd like to do it up but not sure how. What makes for a relaxing bedroom would you say?

For me its minimalism, or the impression of at least. Loads of wardrobes and storage, so its mainly a bed, some uncluttered bedside tables, and some nice lighting.
I really couldn't have fussy prints, piles of stuff or general clutter.
Minimal colours (I have blue and orange as accents, against 95% white), and preferably no dc in there Grin

@Gardenwalldilema is absolutely right. It should be a haven from the chaos of the rest of the world. In whatever colour you fancy!

Thanks Gardenwalldilema yours sounds nice. I haven't got much colour but it just feels like a big empty space. Definitely need to get rid of the clutter though to start off with. Maybe just repainting will help as it hasn't been painted in years. I've got a couple of chests of drawers which aren't great and cheap lamps so maybe I need to get nicer ones

I have a large grey and mostly mirrored fitted wardrobe which creates the illusion of more space. A super king bed (ottoman style for storage)with a bedside cabinet at each side. No clutter, no fussy curtains, just a pelmet, blind and some soft lighting. Nice and relaxing.

When I talk to my patients about sleeping well a calming, uncluttered bedroom is always important. Muted colours rather than bright ones will keep it calmer, pale green always seems to be a popular option (my sample pool may not be the most diverse though!) Fill it with things that you love and that will make it a comforting place for you. Oh and invest in blackout curtains!

No clutter, no TV. Even with wardrobes etc holding clothes I like a bedroom that gives the impression it’s just for sleeping/reading/relaxing.

Making the bed and investing in nice throws and extra faffery is worth it IMO. Wall-mounted bedside lights to feel like a hotel (makes bedside tables look less cluttered too). A chest of drawers with nothing remotely practical on top, instead: fancy lamp, vase of flowers, objet.

(Please note that I achieve this look once every two years and my bedroom currently has a vacuum cleaner on its side – aka “horsey” – three Sainsbury’s bags for life spilling out clean laundry, and toddler lipstick graffiti on the door.)

Mine isn’t particularly ‘minimal’, which is a word I associate with scandi, white bare bones interiors. However, it’s not cluttered, it’s a big room with not a lot of furniture in it (dressing room is separate) and so the furniture that is there is oversized so as to be in proportion and not look lost and odd in the room (whatever the size of your room, make sure the furniture is proportionate). The colours are cosy and the furnishings are soft and luxurious. The woodwork is the same colour as the walls. I agree with the blackout post.

Thanks these are all helpful. Mine definitely doesn't feel like a hotel at the moment Grin I should look at throws and cushions.

Our was bright blue with a brown carpet when we moved in 🤢

We have painted it neutral shades of cream/brown and a cream carpet. Its not for everyone but I think its lovely and cosy

wellingtonbear · 16/07/2021 20:48

Cream and white different textures and very tidy
