ashtma attack on a Friday

Hi,

I had an ashtma attack earlier today whilst at work. I work with kids but was able to get away for a little bit and used my ventolin/salbutamol inhaler for maybe 12 puffs and eventually it calmed down. I was able to work the rest of the day with a bad cough and a sore chest and feeling generally exhausted and rubbish.

I'm home now and still coughing, still with a sore chest and struggling to breathe fully in. I can do it, it's just sporadic full breaths and then I can't for a few more breaths.

I had an ashtma attack last Monday night/Tuesday morning and spoke to my GP the same day as they have advised me before. She was lovely and did a sort of ashtma review and instructed me to double my preventer inhaler dose for a week. I went back to normal yesterday. I've been struggling since then and had to use my reliever inhaler a lot, particularly in the mornings. I had an exercise class last night and missed most of it because of ashtma symptoms.

I know I need to phone my GP for a review as it's getting worse, but I can't call about this ashtma attack until Monday.

Is it worth me calling 111 or out of hours GP to speak to or should I stick it out until Monday and just rest? If I did call 111 what would they do? I don't need emergency care but I do need ashtma advice Blush

Does anyone have any experience? I've had maybe 5 ashtma attacks since I was diagnosed a few years ago. Thank you so much Flowers

I would ring 111, you may need a course of oral steroids to get it under control.

I would resume the high dose of preventer until Monday. But that's just me with years of attacks and twiddling with meds behind me. If in doubt, call 111 who may be able to get you an out of hours spot, but will most likely send you for 7 hours on ER! Hope you feel better soon, it's horrid

I would call 111. Your asthma is not under controlled and you know it’s deteriorating. The weekend is here and who knows what that may bring. Follow the advice 111 give you.
I’m not a dr but am asthmatic. I wouldn’t mess around as not breathing isn’t a good option. On the positive side, it’s probably solvable with a tweak of meds and/or a short course of pred.
Ring 111 and explain and do as instructed.

Thank you all so much. I'm on hold to 111 currently. I just feel miserable and know I'm not right. Ashtma is truly a cruel mistress. My hands have started tingling Confused

Thank you all again 💗

Just wanted to say thank you all again for the push!

The doctor I spoke to on Friday was quite condescending and basically said "are you sure it wasn't just a panic attack?" went on a big spiel despite me telling him I very clearly know the difference and he eventually said well you can can come in tonight if you really have to. I stuck out through the weekend and spoke to my gp this morning.

She immediately prescribed steroid tablets and said I may need a new inhaler. She also asked if heat was a trigger for me to which I replied I don't know. She looked through my notes and this exact time a few months ago I'd had an appointment for the same symptoms... So yes, heat is a big trigger Grin thank you all again!
