Diamonds (man made) engagement

With a show of virtual hands, which is nicer.
A square diamond or round?
My taste is not good and I'm curious

Round

Sceptre86 · 15/07/2021 11:35

sqauare

TiddyAndFletch · 15/07/2021 11:35

I prefer a round diamond because they are more sparkly. It does depend on the overall design of ring and setting, though. I would choose something classic and plain for an engagement ring. Mine is a round diamond in a simple twist setting, no embellishments.

@TiddyAndFletch that sounds very nice

Oval, trillion or baguette Grin

Not a fan of big round diamonds, or large square solitaires. My favourite engagement rings are all cluster or trios.

(my own is an emerald with a cluster of diamonds)

Round

Your taste is not 'not good', it's just your taste. Choose what you like!

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 15/07/2021 11:51

@BumBurnerBum I know you're right really, I just find that on posts where people ask which dress or whatever is better I always choose the one that nobody else does Grin
I do like to overthink

I have a beautiful raised princess cut (square) diamond engagement ring from Tiffany. It is super sparkly… it garners a lot of attention. It’s set on a plain platinum band and my wedding band is also plain as the diamond is such a show stopper!

When DH and I spoke v loosely about engagement rings pre proposal, I was v clear I didn’t want a round diamond as they are everywhere. If you go for a princess cut, go for a ‘brilliant’ cut, this will mean the diamond clarity and sparkle will compare with a round diamond of similar quality.

It is so classic and beautiful, I still get a thrill from wearing it four years after DH proposed and I’m so glad its not round like everyone else!

Now I'm confused againGrinnice problem to have though.
I've never had anyone before that wants me to be happy and so I've never thought about these things properly so I'm a bit clueless

You don't follow the crowd. You know your own style! Not a bad thing.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 15/07/2021 13:21

Try a cushion cut.
They're really sparkly and it's kind of both round and square at the same time. Smile

WhatIsThisPlease · 15/07/2021 13:22

Round. Completely timeless.

Strokethefurrywall · 15/07/2021 13:26

I love cushion cut fat more than square which just feels a bit too harsh for me.
So if choice between round or cushion, I’d go cushion.

cirrusminor · 15/07/2021 13:28

If you're going to be the wearer of the ring, I suggest trying some on if you possibly can. Don't worry about what's tasteful or fashionable because you're meant to wear this ring over a number of years, during which trends will change anyway.

FWIW I was absolutely convinced I wanted an oval or an emerald cut, coloured gemstone engagement ring (because I really wanted something "different") until I tried things on - and now here I am with my plain gold solitaire with a small round diamond, and I love it!

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 15/07/2021 13:28

The cushion cut is nice🤔
I think I like the square from the posh spice/ sex and the city era.
I do agree that round is a classic for a reason.
All this from a casual conversation, I can't imagine the stress of a dress Grin(if it's ever needed of course)

Very true @cirrusminor I like coloured stones but I think this might not be the direction to go!

I have a square diamond. I love it but it seems to constantly need cleaning to look sparkly. I also have a (smaller, non-engagement) round diamond that looks sparkly even when a bit grubby.

I was engaged when I was younger but we never made it down the aisle. I had a trilogy ring, three oval stone in a rubover setting. It was lovely and really unusual. I gave it back but wish I'd kept it.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/07/2021 13:51

Just choose what you like best - your username demands it, OP!

Personally I don't like round or square - my engagement ring is a very unusual shape Grin

brushlaptop · 15/07/2021 13:57

I have a soft square but I think ovals are very beautiful!

InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 15/07/2021 14:16

round, brilliant cut. The sparkliest cut!

user1471548941 · 15/07/2021 15:30

I don’t think I can answer this because I love and have a pear cut!

I was told by the jeweller that if I hadn’t chosen it she would have recommended it because it suits my hand!

Go and try some on- we had a lovely day out in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter designing the final ring.

Why not?

mylovelydd · 15/07/2021 17:10

@pussycatlickinglollyices agree! But I'm biased because mine is a Victorian cushion cut ❤️
