Would getting an Uber to school be maddness

I have recently split with my husband and am looking for somewhere new to live. I don't drive (I have tried to learn but can't seem to get the hang of it and can't really afford a car either) so want to stay in the local area for schools etc (we are likely to do 50/50 with the kids). My youngest is 7 so has a few years of primary school still to go. There are some cheaper nicer properties that would be too far to walk and no bus routes that work but an uber would be about £5 each way which, once I take holidays and only have to do it half of school term time feels doable.

I live in London and never had a problem booking one but not sure if there are other alternatives or pitfalls I should consider. Any thoughts or ideas would be gratefully received.

I had my eldest on a scooter - took a while to get him used to it so there wasn't faffing around etc but he got there quite fast and with me walking briskly and him scooting it was perfect. I'm pretty sure it sounded longer than the distance you're considering, too.

Our DS has been taking taxi to school for some years now. We book with a local firm, I have the manager's direct mobile number so we, and the school, are able to communicate really easily with him as needed. I like having an actual contact person who I can text or speak to looking after the booking rather than relying on an app. I make direct bank transfer payments on a weekly basis so it's all really easy.

I’d find properties closer to the school

I’d walk that. I don’t think that’s far at all! I live 1.5 miles from my nearest Tesco and Ds and I have been walking that since he was old enough to walk (obviously using a buggy as well when he was little!) I don’t think that’s any distance at all.

Wow, that's really cheap for 1.5 miles. My dc's primary school is the same distance and we used to spend way more than that on public transport before dh started WFH and could drive them.
