Wardrobe depth

I am having a panic because I have ordered some fitted wardrobes but just realised the internal depth for hanging is only 50cm (between the rear wall and sliding doors).

Do people think this is sufficient? When I googled it most sites seem to suggest a minimum of 60cm. If anyone can tell me what depth they have it would be really appreciated.

Just checked an Ikea wardrobe I have. It is 48cm and plenty deep enough for my quite chunky hangers and clothes.

Thanks so much for checking mama. I just posted the same question on the DIY page and everything thinks it is too shallow. They said the ikea pax was 58cm, do you have a different ikea one?

Not sure what to think now. Would you mind telling me how wide your coat hangers are?

Hi Indigopearl,

Our wardrobes are 54.5 cm deep but the hanging rail is not actually in the centre so there is empty space behind the clothes.

I measured some coat hangers. The chunky wooden ones are 43 and 44 cm (2 different sets and the (reasonably solid) plastic ones are 41 cm wide.

We have a thick wool military coat (very structured shoulders) on one of the wider hangers and I measured 50 cm against it. It would physically fit in a 50 cm wardrobe, but the sleeves would be slightly squashed.

So I think you'll hopefully be OK unless you want to store ballgowns and huge coats in the wardrobe.

I've just been and measured our perfectly normal, but 20 yr old, wardrobes. 52cm external width. The random coathanger was 47cm. So I'd say 50 will be fine, but not spacious. Weve never had a problem.
Our inbuilt wardrobes are 60cm.

@Brunamax

Hi, I guess this must be a premium class product. So I will only speak my own mind, but for me it is a little weird trying to save too much. I like to buy lingerie harness at MarieMur for my wife and this is also premium class garnments, but I am ready to pay whatever it's true worth and not try to look for it in Sweden or elsewhere. Plus I think that there are certain side-effects in trying to buy original product in a non-original place, right?
What-the-what now??!! ConfusedGrinShock

Great. Thanks both for getting out your tape measures. This is really helpful.

My hangers are the plastic ones Ikea used to sell in bundles of 5, and they are 43cm wide. My wardrobe is a free standing one aneboda I think.
I guess it depends what you want to store in your wardrobe. I think wider might be wasted space up at hanging level but if you are intending putting lots of shoes/boxes etc at the bottom you might want the extra depth.. How much will difference will it make to the feel of the size of your bedroom if you went bigger (I know 10cm but you know what I mean!}.

Also, If it is going to hold winter coats/mens jackets as Persille says, it might be a bit of a squash.
Why not measure your kitchen units and play around with some hangers /clothes in there to give you a bit more idea.
