Is it just me, or is everything just massively shitty right now?

I'm so confused - we are days away from unlocking day, yet everyone either has covid or is shit scared of getting covid. Schools are closing and parents are terrified of being pinged to self isolate. Our horrible government has cut the foreign aid budget and cancelled the England football teams reception at 10 downing Street. There is a real feeling that people are going to take masks off and actively endanger people in public spaces. English hooliganism has raised its ugly head in front of the whole world. Awful racist knuckledraggers have been mouthing off on twitter. POC are afraid for their safety.

It all feels so...broken and hopeless.

@CormoranStrike same here!

I've worked for Nhs frontline throughout and next to none of my friends or colleagues had it. Now it's everywhere. Especially in schools and nurseries.

pilingup · 14/07/2021 08:16

and I know only of 2 people with confirmed Covid since last year (one caught it in hospital, the other a school teacher).

That's pretty amazing, you must live out in the sticks or not know many people. I only live in a small town, don't have any school age kids, and I still know about 50+ people who've had it. It's rife at the moment round here.

ssd · 14/07/2021 08:22

Its rife here too. I think schools were mostly to blame, through no fault of their own.

newstart1234 · 14/07/2021 08:35

In my circle, more people seem to have had covid in the last few months than the whole of last year combined.

I also feel flat. I’ve been trying to buy some basics like (cushions, bedding, rugs) for my new place but the choice is so limited. I don’t care for my own sake but I fear that this can’t be good for the economy on a bigger scale. The impact of Brexit has only just starting. It’s a bit worrying for me. Same with the tourist industry. It was supposed to be a bumper year for the tourist industry but there’s limited staff and it’s difficult to buy things. I went to the pub recently and there was a sign saying that there are not enough staff and expect to wait longer. We only managed to buy one round, normally we’d have been there for the afternoon having drinks and snacks too. Again, no problem for me, but I can’t see this being a bumper year by any means.

I’ve buried my head wrt climate change, there is only so much I can handle.

The racism and violence surrounding the football has got to me the most. I just don’t know what to do and it makes me feel helpless an hopeless.

Life under long term Tory government tends to be shit but they were banking on the Euros feel-good factor and England winning it to 'boost morale'. Instead the shit show on Sunday has just highlighted how bad things have got.
aubreyii · 14/07/2021 08:44

It's massively shitty and likely to get worse which makes it even more shitty

In no particular order I'm so fucking down about...

Weather
Climate change
Racism
Transagenda
Financial inequalities
Riots
Housing crisis
Shit government
Shit opposition
Trump
People's stupidity
Brexit
State of the NHS
Selfishness
Men, globally fucking things right up and domestically being lazy entitled shits
No summer holiday, no winter holiday
Piles
The state of my house

It's all shit.
@sqirrelfriends on a positive our front lawn is buzzing with bees as we have let it go, not cut since mid June after no mow may. It’s covered in clover and definitely not fake. In a nature group and lots of people doing lots to help bees, butterflies, bugs & nature.
That's amazing eco custard. We got rid of the front lawn a while back but have planted it full of bee friendly plants and have put in a few bee houses.

It's amazing how many we have now. I think I must have spotted about 20 just in the lavender.

RubyGoat · 14/07/2021 11:14

Ooh I’m getting a lavender as well. Thanks for the idea @sqirrelfriends. I love lavender & our bedroom window is right above the garden so I’ll be able to smell it at night.

Thortful · 14/07/2021 11:16

@aubreyii I could have written your list

I only know one person and I'm in (fairly central) london!
StealthPolarBear · 14/07/2021 13:04

Rates are higher in the North East I think, where I am.

SpringRainbow · 14/07/2021 13:11

It’s rubbish, nothing to do with Covid. So far I don’t know anyone who has tested positive this wave (or the first wave - all the positive I know about were December/ January).

For me it’s a huge list of other things while trying to keep it all together but it is relentless. I solve one issue and multiple others turn up.

I am just getting tired of ‘stuff’.

Sorry I laughed when I got to piles, absolutely agree with your list, yes even the piles and the state of my house.

I do take some comfort from the kind messages that the English players have received, they shouldn't have got the abuse though.

I think social media and the media in general are shit, you rarely see any positive stories in the news, and if they do, they do them so badly it irritates me.

I believe that there are more good people than bad.
We desperately need to get rid of all politicians and replace them with far better people.

This is soooo good, sadly true, but made me laugh, think it’s relief to see someone put it so well!
