Black Widow if you haven’t seen any other Marvel films?

Ds is I think the only 13yo boy in the country not to have seen any of the marvel films. He loves cinema, just isn’t been keen to see Marvel at all.

But I think I will encourage him to come and see Black Widow with me. Would we need to have seen any of the others to get it?

I think it stands alone. There are some references he won’t get but it won’t matter. The story is self-contained.

Agree you don’t need to have seen the others, although it always helps get some of the references etc. However if your intention is to spark an interest in the other marvel films, I’m not sure this one is the best place to start.

WellTidy · 13/07/2021 13:25

Yes - my intention is to spark an interest in Marvel, but it’s also somewhere to go! He has ten weeks’ holiday, and it’s a bloody long time to fill.

I’d be grateful for suggestions as to where to start with Marvel if this isn’t it. We have Disney+.

Isn't it a prequel to her life before the Avengers so you probably won't need to have seen other Marvel films

In the first lockdown my son watched all the marvel films in chronological order (the order they are set in rather than released in). This is the link we used editorial.rottentomatoes.com/guide/marvel-movies-in-order/

Avengers Assemble would be a good Marvel film to start with. It's lighter in tone than some of the other films and not too many references to stuff in previous Marvel films which is often confusing if you're not familiar with the MCU.

Pepperlypue · 13/07/2021 13:31

On Disney plus they have all the marvel films in order of how they should be watched starting from captain America.

Defo watch them all, they're amazing!

WellTidy · 13/07/2021 13:50

Excellent. Thank you.

Definitely watch them in order. After getting Disney+ we watched them all again and it made much more sense, little references that I had forgotten to other characters, etc.

We went to see Black Widow on Friday and it is excellent, very well done and good to finally see her story.

AugustRose · 13/07/2021 14:03

Also, if you stay for the scene after the credits, it won't make sense if you haven't watched the others.

OffMyCloud · 13/07/2021 14:20

You can watch it standalone and enjoy it as an action movie. Of course it means more when you know the overall story arc. It is also a but more self contained than some in the series in that it starts when she is young.

My DS wasn't that interested in watching the Marvel films but we started with Guardians of the Galaxy and he loved it (we all did!). This was a good way in for us, we watched GOTG2 and then did the rest chronologically. Doctor Strange is another particularly good one that stands alone well too.

Cassimin · 13/07/2021 15:32

My older son went last night, hasn’t seen the other marvels and said he didn’t like it but thought he might of if he saw the others.
My younger son who usually loves these movies doesn’t fancy it.
