Recipient in in her mid 70s, has mobility issues due to Parkinson’s, lives in a nursing home.
Doesn’t like jewellery or chocolates and flowers aren’t allowed.

Isn’t able to concentrate on a book, craft stuff or puzzles.

No budget, she’s important to me (she’s another mother) but I’m stumped.

Before the home, I would’ve bought her something for her garden which she now doesn’t even like talking about (upset)

Help me MN!!

A summer lightweight dressing gown, or nightie?

WellTidy · 13/07/2021 13:18

A bird book and a feeder that attaches to the outside of the window

Colouring pens and colouring book

Jigsaw with one of those roll up mats to keep the pieces together

Something for the wall, maybe a sign for the door?

sashh · 13/07/2021 13:24

Is the nursing home in a city or is there a garden / grounds?

If there are grounds then binoculars / telescope and a guide to birds? If there isn't a lot o light pollution a guide for stars.

Slippers, dressing gown, wraps are boring but useful.

Alexa and compatible light bulbs / plugs.

Nice bed linen / throws / luxury pillows.

Often in a nursing home clothes can go missing or not be washed quite a carefully as they would at home - so would a cardigan be useful? (or some new underwear as well).

Peckhampalace · 13/07/2021 14:10

My mum has recently bought a lovely artify plant in s nice pot for an elderly neighbour. Seemed to go down well and is a spot of colour in the room.

Peckhampalace · 13/07/2021 14:10

*artificial

tiredmama2020 · 13/07/2021 14:17

@HeidiHoNeighbour Would an artificial or dried bouquet be allowed? Faux and Foliage do beautiful dried flowers that last 3 years 😊 Might be nice for her if she loved her garden!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/07/2021 14:19

Dressing gown and nightie?
Label with her name so it doesn't go missing

JonahofArk · 13/07/2021 14:37

This might be a bit out there but is she into pampering? Could you arrange a 'spa day' for her, where a beauty therapist could go in and giver her a mani/pedi, facial etc?

FearlessSwiftie · 14/07/2021 05:59

Maybe a photo album with pictures of her family members, friends and relatines? You can restore and recolor old black and white pictures in photo restoration programs like Photoglory or Photoworks and then reprint them and make a new photo album. You can also add small notes about each person in case she tends to forget such things (names, date of birth, how they met, etc).
It could also be done in video, you can make a video collage out of photos of people she loves and play it to her then leave a DVD for her to play it whenever she wants to.
A nice painting or a picture for her room sounds a nice suggestion, too.
