IKEA shoe cupboards - any good? Better suggestions?

Our under stairs cupboard full of coats and shoes chaos is driving me to despair. I'm considering an IKEA shoe storage unit but I'm not sure if they're actually a bit of a waste of space for the number of shoes they hold? And are they any good for children's shoes?

What's the best way of storing shoes? We don't have space for a bench with boxes. It's a long-ish narrow space currently with a three tier shoe rack, but that doesn't make use of the height available.

I have this one from Dunelm and am pretty pleased with it. Can get up to 6 pairs in each section and we end up putting 3 pairs underneath too. The thing is getting the kids to put them in there.

We use a bookcase instead www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/billy-bookcase-white-s49217734/

We had a Brusali cabinet from ikea for a few years and it's good if space is tight. Into each compartment you can squeeze up to 2 pairs of chunky mens shoes, or 3 or possibly 4 pairs of less-chunky shoes, or at least 5 pairs of smaller kids shoes. The unit is slim and can be wall-mounted and the shelf at the top is handy for keys and wallet etc.

but as you have under-stairs space I would recommend getting some under-stairs drawers and storage fitted to enable you to use that space properly. A simple cupboard gets chock full of junk as the less-used stuff gets shoved further back and forms a tangled mess that is too horrifying to sort out. Replacing the same volume of space with pull-out drawers and a pull-out coat rack keeps everything arranged neatly and easily accessible.

Take a look at clevercloset.co.uk for example but there are numerous similar suppliers and we didn't use any of them, just showed the kind of thing we were planning to our kitchen fitter who was installing a new kitchen at the time we would have been placing the order, and he made his own version of the concept for much cheaper than the various specialist suppliers.

We also use a Billy bookcase and I agree that the shoe cupboards look like they don't hold very much.

@KihoBebiluPute You describe it well!! Thanks for the link. I'll have a look, but I'm probably after a more simple solution.

A tall Billy bookcase could be a good option. As it's in a cupboard, we don't need the faff of all the shoe cupboard doors etc. and they don't need to be hidden away.

Thank you.
