A thrilling question about washing pods

Chicchicchicchiclana · 12/07/2021 17:38

I don't usually use washing pods, being a fan of big box powders.

But I've been given a large box by someone who didn't get on with them.

I have a large capacity machine, not giant, but I think it's 6 or 7kg and live in a hard water area.

I always do a full load and the clothes need washing (ie. I don't wash anything apart from underwear and socks after 1 wear only).

So do you think I should use 1 or 2 pods?

See - told you it was exciting!

2 pods. 1 only does up to about 4kg of washing I think. It should say on the back of the tub

Purple21 · 12/07/2021 17:43

I would use 2.
Make sure to put them in the drum first before clothes

I have a 6kg machine which I thought was quite small, and I use 1 pod but never fill the washer to the top.

Why should you put them in the drum first?

I always put mine in last Shock

1 pod. If you use 2 you will be left with residue detergent in you machine and it will start to smell and not rinse properly. You have quite a small capacity machine so 1 will be plenty. I work for a major white goods manufacturer.

I think you should do an experiment and do a load with 1 and then one with 2 and see if there's a difference.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 12/07/2021 18:35

sounds like no heavy staining so I'd use one.

They dissolve quicker/properly! You may have been lucky and not been caught with gel all over clothes!

Is 6 - 7kg quite small now? I thought 4 - 5kg was small.

I've got a load I did yesterday hanging up - 4 jeans, 1 linen trousers, 2 jogging bottoms, 1 shorts, 1 t-shirt, 3 pairs of underpants and 3 pairs of socks. All adult sizes. I thought that was quite a lot for one load and not crammed in by any means. I now can't remember if I put in 1 pod or 2 but there doesn't seem to be any residue and everything smells nice and clean.

Mine is 9kg. I'd regard 8/9kg as a larger machine

VenusClapTrap · 12/07/2021 18:56

It depends on the pod, I find. I use one Ariel but two if I’m using Smol.

Chubbychubkins · 12/07/2021 18:59

I'd use 1. I'd say 7kg is standard now. Mine is 10kg, o really wanted an 11kg

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/07/2021 10:42

I have a 9kg machine and it never occurred to me to use more than one pod... Never been a problem.

theneverendinglaundry · 13/07/2021 10:53

I've got an 8kg machine but never fill it, so I'd say around 5/6kg of clothing.

I use 1 pod and add soda crystals to soften the water.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/07/2021 10:58

Whether one or two, when they’re all finished, do a 90 deg wash with just soda crystals, to wash out all the slimy gunk the pods leave behind.
