End of primay for Y6s...and bloody Covid

Year groups are dropping like flies at our primary. I know is only a matter of time before Y6 are despatched home. There's not a huge amount planned over the next 7 days, but I can see the things that are planned (a disco and a little show) just being wiped.

I know it's the way it is, but just so fed up of it. I'm dreading one of those emails popping into my inbox and everyone sent home. That'll be it.. done. DD had the most wonderful end to primary school.

No point to this..just hate how Covid is spoiling these special times Sad.

I fully agree. My y4 was sent homemlasy week. My daughter is y6....they are supposed to have a bbq/disco on the last day of term. I can't see it happening.

On the other hand she's meant to gonfor a sleep over this weekend at another friend and I don't want her to go because of.the risk.....I don't know what to do for the best. She hasn't done anything like this for 18 months.....but still...only a few more days till the end of term.......(the sleep over is with girls from a different school).

I'm working in y6 at the mo, we're only letting ourselves look forward to one little milestone at a time.
Usually we go into the last two weeks with a mood of celebration. This year it's a feeling of impending doom Sad

I'm currently working in dd2's y6 class. We've had two bubbles close at the end of the last week & are expecting more this coming week (there were 2 classes out for the week before too - ours being one of them).

Every day closer's a bonus. We're just getting through one day at a time & hoping we get to the next 🤞🤞 I'll be gutted if we don't get to Friday. As much for myself as the kids; I've spent 6 years volunteering and then working with the majority of them!

I’m really hoping we make it to end of term for year 6

I want them to have their last days happy saying bye not isolating

SoThisisMe · 11/07/2021 20:00

Same OP. I have a y6, he's got a much wanted part in his leavers play and a little graduation ceremony coming up.
I know people are going through worse but he (and I!) will be so upset if they don't happen.

My oldest is year 6 this year too, I was so upset last year to see so many kids being denied their end of primary schooling celebrated properly and really hoped we'd have got a better hang on it all by now. I hope that they all get to say a proper goodbye!

bobisbored · 11/07/2021 20:23

My DD is year 6 and tested positive on Thursday taking out her entire year group. She's devastated. Hopefully they can go back for the last few days. It's so hard on the kids.

Comedycook · 11/07/2021 20:25

I don't have a year six but the year six in my dc school have been sent home to isolate. It's really sad. I really do feel awful for them

Shieldingending · 11/07/2021 20:27

It's so sad, I'm a teacher and our year 6 bubble are now isolating. Celebrations via zoom are not the same... I hope your year 6's make it to the end of term

Chicchicchicchiclana · 11/07/2021 20:27

Yes, it's horrible. But worse for Y11s and Y13s imo, not to mention University graduates. Fucking Covid!

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 11/07/2021 20:33

It’s hard for everyone and am sorry for all but am over it tbh.
My youngest child finished primary last year with no leavers performance/assembly or party. After my spending 15 years at that school that was a real personal blow as well as for DD.

Than also had my eldest who had no GCSEs that she had spent months working for plus no leavers awards day or prom that we had already bought the dress for etc.

I’m over it. This year has been much better than last and we need to just accept and move on.🤷‍♀️

Runwayqueen · 11/07/2021 20:36

DD is yr6, we've made it through without any isolations yet but we don't have any hope for the last two weeks. She has a fever disease and school have been very supportive and followed the guidances our medics gave out, but the school have had 3 bubbles burst in the last week so even if she doesn't have a bubble burst the next flare will probably have to be backed up with a pcr. I can't even bring myself to hope that we may get to attend her leavers assembly.

AbiJo · 11/07/2021 23:36

Thank you everyone. Its depressing isn't it. I want to enjoy this last week and a half but feel almost like there's a sword hanging over our heads that could fall at any minute...

It’s all been happening at our schools aswell. Dd is year 3, DS is year 8. Last week a collect few had to isolate from year 8, luckily wasn’t DS as he spends his time with a small group due to his additional needs. His teacher then had to isolate but thankfully hasn’t tested positive yet. Year 10s are now being asked isolate. Year 5 got sent home after they had just been dropped off on Friday. And some of the kids in dd class have brothers and sisters in year 5....
