these items have been used to try on for size?

Daughters school are selling uniforms with the old logo cheaper. But what does 'these items have been used to try on for size' really mean? I've just been overthinking about hygiene etc. Is there any point in buying the old logo uniform vs unbranded from a store? I can just wash before wear too...but part of me is saying no no no to things like shorts, pe tops etc. Would you and have you?

What's the quality like too?

'Try on for size' means just that. The school will have had a stock of one of each item in every size for children to try on when parents don't know which size to order. They have not been worn by anybody as day-to-day uniform.

Nothing wrong with second hand uniform even if it has been worn. Except for sports shirts for older kids - IME you can never get the stale sweat smell out.

So it could have been tried on by many different children?

Is it a problem if they are tried on by many different children? You’re going to wash them, right? I don’t see a problem with it. It’s no different to trying on a dress in a shop that has probably been tried on by several people, no? So it will have been tried on - on children for a matter of seconds , rather than sweated in, washed and worn.

Dilbertian · 11/07/2021 11:10

What difference would it make?

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 11/07/2021 11:10

It’s going to be washed and who would know it’s been “tried on for size”? This is a weird thread. On that basis would you not allow hand-me-downs between your own children? As long as it’s still in good condition everything we have gets passed down/passed on.

faithfulbird20 · 11/07/2021 11:19

I haven't said no. I'll go check them out on Monday.

Don’t see the problem?

30degreesandmeltinghere · 11/07/2021 11:21

Priority to me would be are they cheaper? Can I shove them in my washing machine?
Not how many little cherubs have had them on for seconds!!

shivawn · 11/07/2021 12:44

You are way overthinking this. Like people have said, they were just sample sizes for people to try on. No big deal.

Heyha · 11/07/2021 12:46

It's a great way of getting 'second hand' uniform that hasn't actually done a hard day's work in its life yet, it won't have seen any snot or glue sticks anyway.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 11/07/2021 12:50

Stuff in shops that you buy brand new will have been tried on for size by an unknown number of children in the shop too.

thecognoscenti · 11/07/2021 12:51

What's the problem? Pop the stuff in the washing machine and you're good to go.

I think as a society we really need to try and get over the obsession with getting everything new and embrace second hand stuff, for the planet's sake.

ChuckMater · 11/07/2021 13:04

I don't see the issue. Anything you buy from shops has potential to have been worn by someone else either trying on in changing rooms or someone buying it and then returning it. If they've been tried on for size they've not been exercising in them. And even if they have.. do you never buy second hand or from charity shops?

PattyPan · 11/07/2021 13:07

I assume everything in shops has been tried on for size by several people. But I don’t see what the issue is with that anyway.

DinosaurDiana · 11/07/2021 13:09

Stuff in a shop could have been tried on, it’s no different.
