Lick paint

Sorry, posting here for traffic as got no response on property/diy Blush

Not literally licking paint, but Lick, the paint brand.

What is your experience of them? I'd like a colour like Setting Plaster, but lighter, and Lick has one that looks great. Are they easy to use? Is their eggshell (can't use matte as will be child's bedroom) very shiny?

I've never heard of lick paint but B&Q do Valspar and will mix and colour your want. If you take in a sample they scan it and mix paint to an exact match.

OP did you order a sample of the Lick paint? The fact they only do paper samples puts me off as I’d like to paint on the wall. I’m looking for a lighter version of setting plaster as well, because in my west facing room it appears a dark rose pink and totally unlike any pictures I’ve seen online or on the F&B colour chart.

Same here.

@MonkeyGoneToHeaven I've done a comparison, and I think their pink02 is actually the same as Pink Ground. Pink Ground looked too sugary in the colour chart but looking at Instagram photos, it's a lovely subtle peach.

I thought I might email them and see if I can get them to guarantee the colour is the same as the sample, with a refund if not. £38 is too much to lose if it’s as radically different as the F&B one is to the colour on the tin…

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 13/07/2021 19:18

Oh thank you @lettie9, I was wondering about Pink Ground. Another sample pot in the basket then!

One thing that bothers me about Lick is... it's a 'millennial' brand, and it targets 'yummy mummies'. I browse Instagram and every other ad is Lick - they have sponsored a million interiors blogs to use them (for free) and be positive. So I don't feel one can easily get a truthful review.

Yes, their branding puts me off as well. Feel like I’d be paying for the influencers and not the paint quality.

lettie9 · 13/07/2021 19:35

Exactly. I also get bombarded by Coat, who are cheaper, but also new. Also do paper rather than paint samples.
I'm not against paper samples at all, as that's more environmentally sound, but there's the issue of matching the hue. Also, samples only come in matte, which is problematic if you want eggshell because of children.

I’m considering buying Lick paint too but I’d love to hear about others experiences before I take the plunge.
