My 3 year old just ate pasta and sauce...

... and not only did she not scream at the sight of it, she actually ate it and said "pasta and sauce is amazing" !

Such a small thing but I'm so pleased (although not showing it to her as try not to make a big thing out of what she does or doesn't eat). She's always been particular although I've been able to put together a balanced diet most days from the obscure things she will eat, but this got much harder after a big operation she had a few months ago. She really didn't want to eat or drink anything and the ward served things like plain spaghetti and chips as it was all many kids could stomach post op. Since then she's only wanted to eat things like plain pasta for lunch, or pasta with cheese eventually. Today she agreed to a jar of sauce on top of her plain pasta with cheese, and ate it, and I'm so relieved because if she'll have sauce again it makes dinner so much easier (maybe next time I won't need to wash the curry sauce off her chicken and rice before serving dinner etc etc)

Anyone else feel very relieved by moments like this? I know it might not be repeated but I don't think it will be a problem now

Fabulous! That's a huge win!

She will eat "plain" things like fruit and even certain vegetables, meat and nuts so I'm not just feeding her pasta but being able to have sauce on a plate makes things much easier since recently she's screamed even at the sight of seasoning which she's declared to be "horrible sauce"!

yes! and I do show I'm pleased - even if it's just saying well done for trying something new or aren't you happy you got brave, that was yummy!

well done your DD! very happy for both of you!❤

That’s fantastic, what a great breakthrough!

Even the little things count as a win! 😁

My 15yo has sensory issues around textures/smells/taste so very limited diet - he ate a bowl of pasta for the first time last month and DH and I were nudging each other under the table trying not to draw attention to how shocked we were that he was eating it without gagging or complaining

Later DS said that he'd like to add it to the meal plan - it was only a homepride pasta bake and I'm not overly keen on it but it'll do!

Nohomemadecandles · 10/07/2021 12:45

No, I hear you. My DS won't eat things unless he can clearly see what's what. He will eat pasta at home because he knows what's in it. But not risotto or paella or a casserole.

Given the choice, he'd eat dry pasta, separate grated cheese, a side of peas and pieces of fruit (but not a fruit salad)

Take the win!

Yay! With fussy children you have to celebrate the small wild. My 2.5 DS ate homemade curry the other day for the first time in probably over a year Smile
