I was told to get this as two of my kids have braces and my husband wanted one.

Tried it a few days ago. All that seems to happen is my mouth just gets filled up with water. Is there a knack? Or am I just not using it properly. I have it turned up fairly high.

You need to aim it quite high up towards the gum line where the gaps are between your teeth, if your mouth is just filling up then you might be aiming too low. Also don’t close your mouth - let the water run out into the sink as you do it. I love mine, it’s so satisfying!

It just seems to go everywhere. The mirror my glasses down my chin etc. And doesn’t seem to do anything other than just fill my mouth with water. I will try and aim higher. What setting do you have it on

Trouble is I need to see with my glasses in to where it’s aiming. But then can’t see as they just get sprayed with water.

As Coffee said, you need to aim it at your gum line and between your teeth like floss. Have your mouth open so the water runs out again into the sink/bath depending where the socket is. Have your kids got electric toothbrushes as well? We got them the sonic ones which are very gentle and it made a huge difference.

I was similarly bemused when I first tried mine.

You have to aim at the gumline and between each tooth. Scary what comes out even after brushing.

I'd start on a low setting and increase gradually over time.

Do it when in the shower or bath - saves all the mess! (I have a cordless for this purpose). Experiment with the different head types. There is a rubber nozzle one that I like to use (pickpocket I think it's called).

Also turn on only when in your mouth! Not before. Spit often.

DukeofEarlGrey · 10/07/2021 12:42

I found it useless as well and then my dentist told me they only work when used in addition to normal floss Confused

DCINightingale · 10/07/2021 12:44

Had mine 2 months now and love it. I haven't mastered the art of letting the water dribble out of my mouth so I just stop halfway along and spit out, then carry on. Only switch it on when its safely in your mouth. I usually use it before brushing.

Rubyrecka · 10/07/2021 12:47

I'm the same. It's such a mess just standing there gob open while it's does its thing. I've gone back to tepe flossing cos I found myself not being arsed with it

Roussette · 10/07/2021 12:57

I've had one for years.

You don't need your glasses on to see where you are aiming, you just hold it and point it around your mouth, whilst leaving your mouth open for the water to fall out into the sink!

Press the button when it's in your mouth, lean over the sink... sorted!

CormoranStrike · 10/07/2021 12:59

I use mine kneeling next to the bath (it’s closer to the plug than the basin) and it makes a lot of mess, but my mouth feels so clean after.

NonsensicalHair · 10/07/2021 13:04

I take my glasses off and lean over the sink.

You should be able to feel when you're aiming the jet of water at the gaps between your teeth. Run the waterpik around your mouth, pointing the jet at each gap in turn and all the while letting the water run into the sink.

No water should be gathering in your mouth. It doesn't work to stand up and look in mirror (as you've found!) as the water goes everywhere. Make sure the nozzle is touching your gums too, that way you will easily be able to distinguish the gaps that you're aiming for from your teeth.

NonsensicalHair · 10/07/2021 13:05

Or as someone else suggested, do it whilst in the shower, so much easier.

Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 10/07/2021 15:35

Unfortunately my husband bought the corded one or the shower would be a good idea
