Baby rapid breathing

Hi has anyone’s baby had really rapid breathing? Baby number 4 and never experienced this before! Resps can be 72 per minute! I’ve been to paediatrics twice, spoke to mid wife and been to the doctors and they all telling me this is just his normal but I’ve never seen it before in any baby!

He uses his full body to breath really fast, laboured and heavy… currently 9 days old

Thank you

Both of mine did this. Scared the life out of me with DS1, then scared the life out of me again with DS2 because I'd forgotten it 😂

But it is apparently normal, and they both stopped doing it quite quickly. They are both perfectly healthy now!

Personally I would get this checked again. Rapid breathing and clammy cold hands and feet are a size of sepsis one of the biggest killers of babies. Get checked just in case

40-60 breaths a minute is normal range so he is slightly above….is it consistently 70 something breaths or does he have periods of slower resps? Babies can certainly give the appearance of being abdominal breathers so unusual for them to seem like they’re using their body to breath. It’s good 4 different professionals have seen him and are happy.

Is he otherwise well? Feeding well, not lethargic? Is he making any grunting sound when he breaths? Any nasal flaring?

Sorry, it’s usual for them to look like they’re using their whole body to breath

That’s comforting to know! Can you remember how long it took them to grow out of it? I’m sick of going to the hospital and then feeling like I’m just an over protective mum 😭😭 but at the same time it’s breaking me watching him x

No nasal flaring, no sucking in, no grunting… flying past everything else gained 5oz in 5 days, passed his hearing test and all other checks it’s literally just this! He’s not very awake often but considering his age that’s acceptable too x

I totally agree this is why I keep taking him back I feel as if he’s working too hard and one day will just stop breathing 😭😭
