Recommend product for wavy frizzy hair

I’ve been straightening & colouring my hair so long it’s in very bad condition. It’s also pointless straightening it at the moment because the humidity makes it wavy again within hours. So I’ve decided to let my natural wave/curl come back. I’m getting a haircut tomorrow so will get layers put in as it curls better that way but I’m looking for recommendations on products that I can put in wet hair, scrunch my hair a bit & then let it dry naturally. Something that will take away the frizz but won’t make it “crispy” if you know what I mean. Help!!

Also I should say I’m in ireland but can order online if need be.

I have really fine wavy hair and have tried loads of things and had more or less given up on finding something as they either weigh it down or make it crispy.

However, my mum got the m and s beauty box and gave me this, as she didn't want/need it:

m.aveda.co.uk/product/5303/80716/hair-care/leave-in-treatment/botanical-repair-strengthening-leave-in-treatment#/shade/100_ml

Which I love! It's the only thing that has ever worked for me. I scrunch it into wet hair and that's it, frizz free waves. It doesn't make your hair greasy either. It's got quite a strong scent that I really like but probably not for everyone. It's also dear at £28 a pop but I will definitely buy some when this runs out. And I am not someone who spends money on this sort of thing.

Have you looked into the curly girl method?

L’Oréal hair oil.

Curly girl method. It’s changed my hair completely to a lovely bouncy head of curls. You actually want it crispy (this is called a cast) which you then scrunch out when it’s completely dry, leaving soft shiny waves or curls.

Lupinspotato · 09/07/2021 12:56

I second what @MoMuntervary said. I have the exact same type of hair and got the Aveda product in the M&S beauty box and it’s dramatically changed my hair. It’s expensive but I will definitely be purchasing it again.

Anordinarymum · 09/07/2021 13:05

I've just ordered the Aveda product. Thanks for the tip !

Alsonification · 09/07/2021 13:48

Thanks so much ladies. I’ve had a look at the curly girl method & reckon I’m a 2c or 3a on the hair scale. So looks like it might work for me.
So now a follow up question, anyone recommend a sulphate free shampoo & conditioner?
Thanks for the aveda recommendation. Looks good.

Alsonification · 09/07/2021 14:34

I’ve gone on to the irish aveda site & managed to order that botanical treatment in a small probably sample size for €9 plus I got a Be Curly spray thingy also for €9. Plus I was able to use the WELCOME15 voucher so thanks for that. If they are good I’ll go back & order the bigger sizes.

I co-wash using ASIAM. My hair always feels cleansed and nice. I haven't used shampoo for months and don't think I will ever go back to using it.
DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 09/07/2021 14:45

Curly girl method all the way.

Stop washing out all your conditioner.

I only wash about half out and the difference to my waves is amazing.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 09/07/2021 14:50

Look for a CGM group on Facebook, I'm in a few that are great for suggestions of techniquesand prod. I don't use shampoo, instead use a light conditioner as a co-wash (conditioner wash). Then gently scrub scalp with a silicon brush for a few min, rinse well, then I use a different conditioner to Moisturise hair. I rinse inside down to encourage root volume then apply gel to soaking wet hair, plop (googkd the technique!) In a tshirt, wait 10 min, then remove and I air dry. Once dry I need to SOTC, scrunch out the crunch and it leaves bouncey curls that last a few days.

Its quite alot of work, but I only do that twice a week, I sleep in a satin bonnet. That helps massively to cut down on frizz and helps preserve curl structure between wash days.

Alsonification · 09/07/2021 14:51

@Anordinarymum is this what you use?

Yes ! And I use Cantu cream conditioner and then leave a little in after rinsing. I scrunch it and then dry it in one of those turban things and then let it dry naturally and scrunch it as it dries.
It's hit and miss whether it looks like a dog's dinner or not but I am enjoying the experience of getting to know the dynamic of my hair and never having to blow dry or use straighteners ever again :)

Also I am enjoying trying out new products, a lot of them come recommended on here :)

Anordinarymum · 09/07/2021 15:00

I got it on eBay.

Alsonification · 09/07/2021 15:01

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee that’s such a lot of work. I’m so lazy I want to be able to wash & go lol. Why can’t I have easy hair Angry

@Anordinarymum thanks a mil. I’m so sick of straightening.

I’ve been trying the OnlyCurls products and enjoying them. The Curly Girl method is a faff but it does make a huge difference.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 09/07/2021 16:20

I often wash my hair in the evening, so its almost dry by bedtime. Then I do nothing for 3-4days till the next wash day. I'm so lazy I literally take my hair out the bonnet and that's it good to go for 3-4 mornings. Its not as hard as it sounds!

Goldenphoenix · 09/07/2021 20:57

Cantu moisturising curl activator cream. I love it, it's transformed my frizzy hair. Smells lovely and you only need a small amount so it lasts ages.

DinosaurDiana · 09/07/2021 21:20

I’m probably a 3B and I find the less I do the better. A drop of the L’Oréal oil on wet hair, left to dry naturally, is the best for my hair.
I use a bit of frizz ease conditioner and have a silk pillowcase.

Santanomore · 09/07/2021 21:24

Boots curl creme. Although it seems to have gone scarce again.

I use OGX shampoo and conditioner. I don't pay much attention to curly girl. The whole not washing my hair properly and leaving conditioner in just leaves me with greasy roots and shit hair.

niceupthedance · 09/07/2021 21:33

Vo5 frizz free creme
Just air dry. Have to use quite a bit though

Watch the aveda website around Black Friday for discounts (20-25%). I save up to stock up then.
