Is it normal to love sleeping so much?

I just love being at rest and sleeping/being all fresh and cosy, falling asleep

If I had a free day, I would sleep from 9am to 2pm, then pop for a late lunch, and return to sleep until 6pm. Fall asleep just fine at 10pm.

Is it normal?

I don't feel depressed. I just can't think of much else I'd rather spend my days doing. It feels amazing Blush

Can't be bothered doing loads of 'exciting' activities, but do because I have a DS so we're out most weekends etc

I just love being asleep

Me too...not a moment Of the day when I couldn't sleep if given half a chance

BertieBotts · 09/07/2021 10:26

I think it's normal after you become a parent! :o

CostaLotta25 · 09/07/2021 10:27

My DH could do this. He has ASD though and so needs a lot of sleep to process stuff or becomes overwhelmed

Interesting, my DS has Autism and absolutely doesn't need much sleep at all Grin

I'm suspect that I'm slightly Asperger's, in my own opinion, and I get the processing thing with sleep, that's for sure

I love when you're all snuggly and just on the cusp of sleep. It feels so safe. Think I'd be awake all night if I slept in the day as much as you op though!

I do not like being woken early from a snooze and feeling like you're hungover.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 09/07/2021 10:29

I'd love to after the DC have gone to school, I've had breakfast in the supermarket café and done the shopping, but I just can't fall asleep during the day. How do you do it? Envy

Thatsallivegot · 09/07/2021 10:30

That's not many awake hours out of 24.

Can you cope with a 'normal' working day?
Do you drop off to sleep at the wrong times?

Bells3032 · 09/07/2021 10:30

As long as you're not generally sleeping all day every day i think it's fine and perfectly normal to love sleep!

AdaFuckingShelby · 09/07/2021 10:31

I also love sleeping. It's underrated! I'm seen as a bit of a softie at work because I like early nights & downtime. It's also my main reason for not drinking alcohol, I hate waking in the night feeling rubbish. Give me a good night's sleep over getting pissed any day!

I have no thyroid so always tired and so nap a lot and just feel drained bed is relaxing and comfy. People who don’t feel like this just don’t get it.

My dog is quite anxious and if he’s had a day where there’s lots going on he will relax and sleep a lot for a couple of days afterwards - emptying his bucket as such. My son also asd does the same,

ImaHogg · 09/07/2021 10:34

I absolutely love sleeping and have done so all my life. There is nothing more decadent than a lovely afternoon snooze on the sofa with a comfy blanket and my dog snoozing beside me.
I love going to bed, getting all snuggled up and feeling that peaceful, wonderful feeling that comes when sleep envelopes you.
Add a night when the rain is tapping on the window and that’s my perfect blissful night.

LindaEllen · 09/07/2021 10:44

I think it's normal if you're usually very busy, whether that's looking after kids or going out to work - you dream of days where you don't have to answer to anyone and can just sleep!

On occasion, those kinds of days are fine (and sound very enjoyable to me!)

The only time I would consider it a problem is if you weren't working/didn't have kids and that's how you wanted to spend EVERY day.

So, sleeping a lot in your time off away from hectic life is fine, but if you wanted that to BE your life, it's not so fine, or healthy.

FWIW I love sleep too. I am NOT a morning person, and my days generally start at 10am and I go to bed at 1am (and then play games with my DP on the iPad, so don't go to sleep even then).

Chikapu · 09/07/2021 10:46

I think it's unusual to want to spend all day asleep. I sleep well at night and never sleep during the day unless I'm really ill.

helpfulperson · 09/07/2021 10:53

Nothing better than spending a lazy day snoozing it away. It's only a problem if you are doing it every day or avoiding social events so you can do it.

DinosaurDiana · 09/07/2021 10:57

I thought it was my age, but I just love going to bed early to read a book, then settling down with the dog cuddled up to me. Heaven.
I was just thinking this morning, that I wonder if sleeping longer than you need to is just a waste of life.

TheCouncilDontHelp · 09/07/2021 10:58

That is the dream for the odd day to catch up a bit on sleep!

If it's a frequent thing I'd suggest a trip to your Dr to rule out deficiencies or thyroid issues.

Pileonsally · 09/07/2021 11:00

This is interesting because I also love sleeping. If I get a free hour then I'm straight for a snooze!
Have a daytime nap most days and still do 8-9hrs sleep at night.
I dont know anyone else who does this (my family all do it though and my kids).
My friends are all outraged that I sleep so much and seem to take great pride in telling me how little sleep they have and how they couldn't possibly sleep in the day.

I cant function without loads of sleep.

Keep wondering if something wrong with me but have been like this all my life. My mum like this and brother and uncle and my kids also like this.
Maybe genetically some people just need more sleep.
My DH does 6hrs and thats it. He said it like living with cats in our house with us 3 always asleep somewhere

magicstar1 · 09/07/2021 11:02

I love days like that. I've taken a day's holiday from work to laze in bed loads of times.
I've been working from home for the past year, and when I finish in the afternoon, I sit on the couch with a big blanket and snooze for an hour, while the dog does the same lol. When DH is on morning shift, we both end up snoozing on the couch.

mawbroon · 09/07/2021 11:11

I love sleeping and I am pretty sure I could sleep on command at any time 🤣

I need 9 or 10 hours though. I had years of sleep deprivation when my kids were little and ended up with psychosis. Now, I make sleep a priority without feeling guilty 😃

MayThelock · 09/07/2021 11:19

Hmm, I might look into getting my thyroid checked then!

I wouldn't say I'd avoid social events so I can sleep instead, but I'd definitely prioritise it and make time for it

I go to bed at 8.30 with a book and a chocolate bar. I close the door, the boys are asleep in their beds and I love it. I actually fall asleep at about 9.30.

MonsterMunchConnoisseur · 09/07/2021 11:27

Oh yes! If I could sleep most of the time, I would! Although that is probably 18 months of baby sleep deprivation talking there.
