CV help for 18yo DD?

UnGoogled · 09/07/2021 08:38

My dd has had a tough time over lockdown (haven't we all!) and is just getting confident enough again to think about getting a job.

She's going for a little cleaning job at our gp, which looks like a great stepping stone for her, but she doesn't have a CV to send. She's never worked before.

Any advice on how to craft a CV out of thin air would be wonderful. Grin

She helps with younger siblings at home, is an artist, had amazing gcse results, but has found college very challenging over lockdown. No FE quals.

Thanks for any help!

Does she need to send a CV? A letter bullet pointing her attributes might be better if she has no work experience. Is it through an agency or direct to the surgery?

If you have Microsoft word, they have cv template documents (think it's called "resume" on there) which could be useful to help her with ideas on the layout. A lot of the job sites have good tips and you can find template cv's online.

A “profile”;heading with 1-2 sentences about who she (reliable and hard working or whatever) is and what she wants (what she wants being that specific job)

Education - just her school and GCSEs or other qualifications

Skills and abilities - make up a few headings based on what is required - if she is expected to work alone it could be “self motivated” , or if she is expected to work in a team then “team working”. Think about what they want. Write 2-3 short sentences demonstrating the skills using anything you can from school/home /hobbies. In her circumstances this will be the bulk.

Employment - if she has done any kind of paid or volunteer work ever put it down with an explanation of what skills it taught her that she can bring to this job. Timekeeping, organisation, attention to detail, ability to multitask. Everything counts. Milk monitor - Learned to quickly and efficiently deliver milk to the whole class without disrupting learning. Gained skills in dealing with spillages. Developed people skills which have allowed me to show kindness and empathy within the confines of brief interactions.

Good luck to her.
