Pics of your children on social media

Just curious as to whether you put pics of your children up on sm, and if not, why not?

Thanks

I don't and never have, I had a tough few weeks at the beginning explaining to the grannies we wanted them not to but everyone is used to it now.

I just feel like my DC's image is their own and it's not my job to plaster them all over the internet. I didn't like the fact that the site owns it once it's posted. But school/clubs are also restricted on using their image.

I also found it stopped me getting involved in any competitive 'sharenting'.

pinkbubblebath · 08/07/2021 19:32

"Sharenting", ha! That's a new one for me! Thanks for sharing

Nope. But I don't share any of me either. I don't really get why anyone would want to see what any of us are up to, we're pretty dull!

jakeyboy1 · 08/07/2021 20:08

I do but I am careful with it. I am shocked by people who put kids on in the bath/naked etc.

BlueSurfer · 08/07/2021 20:09

No, never have.

SquigglePigs · 08/07/2021 20:11

I do but I'm very selective and really not very often. I operate on a policy of "would I be ok with it" so only really cute pics. Nothing that should embarrass her when she's older. When she's old enough to have an opinion I will ask her permission.

DeadButDelicious · 08/07/2021 20:56

Never have, no plans to start. She's 4, she's got plenty of time for all of that, she doesn't need me plastering her image all over social media.

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/07/2021 20:58

Not her face. Never have. People get weirdly angry about that choice. Maybe they feel judged or something. Not my friends. Too many SWs, nurses and police officers for that!

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/07/2021 21:00

When she's old enough to have an opinion I will ask her permission.

DD was extremely keen on me posting when she was around 6, at 10 she hates it mostly so I stuck to my guns. It's Pandora's box. Once it's out there!

girlmama32 · 08/07/2021 21:02

I do but am careful, everything is set to private and I regularly go through my friends list to check there's not anyone I don't know, it's also mainly family on my social media. Never put bath pics etc on it scares me the amount of people that do, even in these parenting Facebook groups that literally anyone could be on.

BettyOBarley · 08/07/2021 21:03

I used to, but then someone shared one of my pictures of them on Facebook and I couldn't see who it was that did it to ask why.
Didn't like that at all, so I deleted a lot of people off and don't share pics of them now.

Borland · 08/07/2021 21:05

We don't just because I'm not a massive over sharer - we have a family WhatsApp group for sending pics of children. But if someone puts up a photo and one of our DC happens to be in it, I won't ask for the photo to be taken down or anything like that.

People put naked photos of their children online?
OP posts:
MilkCereal · 08/07/2021 21:07

No never. Dh works in IT in the side where people take the facebook etc pictures of children and share/edit them.... horrific stuff.

Bookaholic73 · 08/07/2021 21:07

For reference: DC are 21 (mental age of 14) and 17.

Facebook- Only with their permission (rarely).

IG and YouTube- No, never.

SaturdayMood · 08/07/2021 21:24

No never. You wouldn't even know I had a child if you looked at my FB. Then again, I don't really post anything unless to do with my hobby and even if then it's rare. I hate seeing constant spam of other people's kids and regularly unfollow or unfriend people who do this. If you were interested in seeing a picture of my child I would send it you privately via WhatsApp. I just don't see the need. A friend recently posted pics of their baby in a photo shoot, naked with a flower covering between their legs. It made me feel very uncomfortable. But then again, I don't see the point behind this trend of naked photos, I think it's very distasteful.

HunterAngel · 08/07/2021 21:29

Rarely. Most pics I post either don’t show DS’ face or only show his profile. There are only two photos that show his whole face both posted by SIL. As they were taken as group shots on special occasions I’ve let it slide.

What is posted on the internet never goes away. It is for DS to decide if he wants his face on social media not me.

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 08/07/2021 21:31

Not really.

Only 2 photos of back of DDs head in a group shot of somewhere

PurBal · 08/07/2021 21:36

Hell no. DS is a person in his own right and the photos on social media will be there forever. When he is old enough he can choose to share if he wants. Doesn’t anyone remember how embarrassing it was when parents got the photo albums out, it doesn’t need to be online for all to see.

Timeisavirtue · 08/07/2021 22:31

I do but all of my accounts are private, and I on,y have people I know as friends. I’ve cut down a lot now. They are older and don’t like thier picture being taken a lot.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 08/07/2021 22:34

Yes, but they’re now teens / young adults, and I only share with their permission. Ds’s gf doesn’t like her picture on sm, so I didn’t share his birthday pics on Facebook, but did share with grandparents by WhatsApp, which everyone was happy with.
