What things made you realise you don't have 'little' kids anymore?

Mine are 9 (nearly 10) and 13 now, and it does kind of creep up on you gradually.

It was things like seeing a Cbeebies magazine and realising I didn't know anything about most of the programmes referred to (thank God)

Filling in reviews of holiday stuff and realising we didn't fit under 'families with young children' anymore once my youngest was past about 8.

Cleaner mixing up mine and eldest's shoes Grin

Getting ads on social media for events and things and thinking 'Mine are way too old for that', in fact generally seeing lots of stuff your kids are too old for.

When they don't ask for Playmobil and Lego for Xmas anymore!

Bumpsadaisie · 08/07/2021 23:00

Instead they ask for Fjallraven bags and expensive gaming monitors Shock

When you start realising you can no longer get away with giving them £1 a week pocket money.

When they go on a bus to town with friends for the morning.

It was a pivotal moment for me when dd3 announced she wanted to take down her framed print of bunnies from her bedroom wall and replace with a poster of Voldemort 😂

I may have sobbed a little bit.

Florencenotflo · 09/07/2021 10:17

I'm still reading these. But Dd1 (5y/o) asked if I could carry her to bed last night, only from my room. Because I hadn't done it in ages. It made me a bit teary, because, no I haven't carried her anywhere in a long time. She's very tall for her age and solid. She looks 7 easily. It killed my back but I carried her to bed and plonked her down, which she thought was hilarious.

Their fathers "hilarious" fart jokes just get withering looks from them now. At 8 and 10 their sense of humour has become more sophisticated than that of a 45 yr old man

When I saw that his swimming trunks were not - er, flat - as they always had been

Spending a mad hour being angry that I couldn't find any children's shoes big enough for DD. Doh.

Walking past Lego and thinking, ' that's really cool. I wish I had someone to buy it for.' sob.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/07/2021 11:19

@MerylSqueak

why can't you buy Lego anymore? it's not just for little kids!
I'm 46 and I still play with Lego.
recently I built a tissue box for the kitchen, I'm gonna rebuild the Death Star & the pirate ship in the summer (I expect kids will give up after a few hours as always).
And I'm designing a splashback for the worktop in the laundry room and a display wall downstairs!

When I became the shortest in the house.
When no one believed in Santa any more.
Ds1 learning to drive and moving out for uni (think I’ll feel this even more keenly when it’s ds2’s turn).
When they started singing the men’s part of the harmony in church (Ds1 went to spend the summer at his dad’s, and when he came back his voice had broken!)

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba Aw it's just their little face when they open the big box ...

Gingernaut · 09/07/2021 12:53

Nephew has a degree and is going for a Masters.

It only seemed like last week he was in his babygro getting freaked out by the Noo-Noo toy.

😁
my 20 year old will be very happy with the ship in the bottle he's getting for his birthday.
given it's not gonna be his little face, but I know he'll be happy & excited.
we are all little children inside!

looking in my purse at my family and friends rail card expiry date and realising I won't be able to apply for another as she will be over 16.!

Looking at the kids going past in school uniform in the morning and wondering why she isn't wearing it. And then it gradually sinking in that she has finished school.

Had to drop off a computer we borrowed from the school yesterday. I no longer recognised the receptionist and she had to ask me what my child's name was...

Realising that the very last parents evening I will ever go to was last february before the pandemic, and I shook hands with the teachers. I also felt very apprehensive about parents evenings but now I'm glad I went to every one. On zoom it is not the same. I did one for sixth form college yesterday and it was just really ODD.
