Can anyone tell me who can access grades for GCSE's etc

Who can access academic grades? Can teachers for example? Or lecturers at university? Who has access to them and can they look up anyone they want?
I'm just curious really because I know people put grades on job applications and imagine nobody would ever actually check them or be able to?

If you go for a job you usually have to bring in your certificates.

Okay but other than that, who can actually look up qualifications? Is there a way? Who has access to it?

Education establishments can access the LRS and see every qualification, grade, year etc and qualifications that were attempted.

So yes, places can check

I would say the opposite. Most normal jobs, certificates are never asked for. I know lots of people who have all kinds of qualifications on their CVs that they don’t have and they aren’t checked. For further/higher education courses they are, though most likely your highest qualification only. So if you did A levels, those certificates rather than GCSE.

Most places that ask for them ask for copies of the certificates, so it’s never a good idea to lie about them.

Although at university it wouldn’t be lecturers looking them up - I think it’s all done by admissions offices and whatnot.

Smallbutnottinykitten · 08/07/2021 14:49

If universities need to know, they can look it up.

Staff at the exam board can also look it up.

And very very many places check - I’ve always had to provide my English and Maths passes for example, due to the type of job I have (and my degree certificate but I appreciate you aren’t asking about that).

igelkott2021 · 08/07/2021 14:51

I've only had to show certificates once, and that was to prove I had my English and Maths GCSEs.

Marmaladee · 08/07/2021 14:57

Okay so if a lecturer or teacher wanted to look up the grades of a friend or relative they could do that?

They could. But since there’s an audit trail they’d be in trouble if they were found out.

What’s your actual point here?

Haskell · 08/07/2021 15:02

They'd have to have a log-in for the LRS, but it's quite tightly controlled- my school only have two people that can access it, the exams officer.and the data manager, teachers can't. Obviously those two roles can see any past results in any case if they're in a centralised school system..most teachers IME don't have the technical know-how to access old results for pupils. Some might manage it, but in my school 95% couldn't.

Also, all schools have a data protection officer now, so of you suspect a breach, contact them and report your suspicions.

Why do you ask? As someone mentioned there is an audit trail if that is what is concerning you ?
