How do I get rid of or tighten the flab between my tits and muff?

Shuffleuplove · 08/07/2021 11:53

I hate exercise and dieting but I look like I’m carrying a flattish baby in a wrap under my blouse.

It’s not muffin top, as it’s right the way over the ribs. Puff pastry muffin top? Pie top?

Help.

If you hate dieting & exercise l imagine you’re stuck with it then? 😂
However, l will bet it’s nothing as bad as you imagine…
There are ways to hide that kind of shape - or train.
I like heavy weights & Pilates.
Maybe you just haven’t found an exercise you enjoy yet?
How old are u? :)

Livedandlearned · 08/07/2021 12:00

You have to do one or the other, then y intermittent fasting and follow Caroline Girvan on YouTube

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/07/2021 12:33

Erm. You are going to have to either diet or exercise. Preferably a combo of the two.

Doyouforseeproblems · 08/07/2021 12:34

Nothing to offer but love your title, made me laugh!

Shuffleuplove · 08/07/2021 13:57

I’m 50. My face looks good, it’s south of my knockers where it’s gone baggy.

Ok so if I exercise, I don’t like getting hot or out of breath, I get panicky. Blush So what are some targeted exercises or gym equipment I should do/use?

Googling Caroline Garvan...

Have you heard of the word 'abdomen'?

Palavah · 08/07/2021 14:00

Pilates, yoga, weight training you could do without getting hot or out of breath.

Can you manage swimming?

Weight around the midsection has a hormonal factor - stress eating/high sugar,/caffeine,/ booze all seem to deposit this way.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/07/2021 14:00

Sorry, but targetted exercise for belly flab is bollocks and a fad. You'd benefit from a good all round exercise plan that works for you coupled with a calorie deficit.

If you dont like getting out of breath and sweaty, perhaps walking? Gentle swimming?

tedsletterofthelaw · 08/07/2021 14:02

The only way to lose fat is to get into a calorie deficit which is achieved by diet and exercise.

Doing abdominal exercises is fine, it will tone up the muscles underneath but to lose the fat you need to burn more calories then you eat.

@KittytheHare Thankyou! I have the most shocking peri menopausal brain today, plus it feels like it’s going to thunder and my vocabulary has left the building. I’ve just called my eldest for his lunch by shouting “oyy, big!” and pointing. I’m one step away from grunts.

Just eat your usual food, but less of it.

It really is that simple.

If you have the time to walk long distances e.g. 5 to 10 miles several times a week, you could burn a LOT of calories without getting too hot and sweaty. I think the ballpark figure quoted is around 100 calories per mile, but that varies depending on a lot of things. You need to burn 3500 calories to lose around 1 lb of fat, so if you run a 500 daily deficit you can lose a pound a week (or thereabouts, there are a lot of variables).

You need a calorie deficit, and as others have mentioned intermittent fasting is well worth looking into. The easiest way of doing it is 16 / 8. That's 16 hours with zero calories (black tea/coffee, sparkling water and herbal teas are fine during a fast) then eat within an 8 hour window. There is a really supportive reddit community that can help with any questions or support you might need with IF; people post progress pictures all the time and many of them are middle aged men and women.

It is also a good thing to do some resistance training (weights) especially as you age. It helps to tone up the muscles and has a number of other health benefits. Again, you don't need to get too sweaty doing that either. A cheap set of dumbbells and you could do that from home.

I'm unable to do much if any cardio at the moment due to other health issues (lung problems following covid) but am losing a lot of weight via the above. Walking, weights, 16/8 fasting.

In fairness, if everyone ate their TDEE in calories it pretty much would be

It would totally solve the national obesity crisis.

Not sure quite what you’re trying to say here?

BiBabbles · 08/07/2021 15:22

Ahh the brain fog, I've done "small" and "not so small" at my kids recently ('not so small' is taller than me...).

Cardio is a struggle for me with my conditions. Reclined or seated cardio can be helpful - doing a row with resistance bands is good - though you'll want to pair it with strength training, particularly with the legs which obviously aren't as involved (though there are resistance band exercises like leg press which can be done reclined, they should be paired with standing and walking exercises when possible). Yoga and pilates as others recommended can also help exercise wise.

Grin @KittytheHare you are a star
ElderMillennial · 08/07/2021 15:29

You can't target belly fat

You'd be better off cutting out calories than exercising as it's harder to burn off significant calories by exercising

Do you snack a lot or eat a lot of calorie dense foods?

ElderMillennial · 08/07/2021 15:29

Also would you go for daily walks instead of other exercise?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 08/07/2021 15:31

Op I think it's perfect just the way you described it. I have exactly the same issue, I've decided to try and do something about it . I've cut out all junk food and started joe Wicks 10 Mins abs
I'm also going to get a skipping rope I've seen some good results but you have to do so much skipping!

iamalighthouse · 08/07/2021 15:33
