There’s a butterfly in my ear!

It least that’s what it feels like.
I have a constant vibrating/fluttering sensation in my ear and it’s driving me absolutely mad!
Anyone had this?
Is there anything at all I can do?

I get this but only ever when I go to bed! No idea how to get rid of it

Hyacinth88 · 07/07/2021 21:03

TwinsAndTrifle · 07/07/2021 21:04

Oh my god, I get this when I go to bed and lie on "that ears" side!!

I'm so glad to see someone else has this. Well. Not glad.

Following with interest to see what the bloody hell it is and how you stop it!

It's a spider gently breaking wind against your eardrum.

Eleoura · 07/07/2021 21:06

Put olive in your ear, let it soak and it will likely float out.

Fucketh off Grin Grin Grin

This drives me crazy every night, don't get my hopes up when I see "new comment on thread" and it turns out to be you and your arachnid flatulence! Grin

It’s been going on over 2 days! Surely not even the most beastly arachnid could carry so much gas.

I’ve had it before intermittently but this is almost constant.

OP posts:
Palavah · 07/07/2021 21:20

Is it sore? Try a couple of drops of white vinegar in your ear

JordanPickford · 07/07/2021 21:23

No it’s not sore.

You know when you get a twitchy eyelid? It’s like that but in my ear.

I am weeping at the confluence of two posts that suggest there's a spider breaking wind in your ear, but it's alright, just shove an olive in there and it'll float out 😂

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/07/2021 21:25

It could just be wax. Get your GP to have a look

EAR FLUTTERING

(Myoclonus of the stapedius and tensor tympani tendon)
Stapedial tendon myoclonus is a rare but treatable disease. Patients with stapedial tendon myoclonus experience a fluttering sound in their ear. This may occur in one or both ears. Patients usually describe the sensation as a butterfly flapping its wings or the sound of a very rapid heart beat. If the fluttering becomes very fast, the clicks can blend and sound like a machine-like humming sound. It is important to distinguish the clicking and crackling that can be experienced in the more typical Eustachian tube dysfunction from the fluttering that occurs in myoclonus.

Probably this 😬

I watched a YouTube video once and a moth was extracted out the depth of someone’s ear Will see if I can find it

Horsemad · 07/07/2021 21:33

My DH had a tiny moth deep inside in his ear once! Went to the surgery who managed to remove it luckily.

TheNestedIf · 07/07/2021 22:00

With a bit more seriousness and a slightly better attempt to be helpful, is it definitely a fluttering, or could it be more of a gurgle?

I did have a problem with wax in one ear that I eventually had to get syringed. Before it was done, when I lay on that side, it would get warmer, less solid, and then sound like someone blowing bubbles through a straw. May be worth trying Ortex for a while?

By the way, if you put an olive in your ear, it will help the spider float out more easily if you also add a martini.

TwinsAndTrifle · 08/07/2021 04:39

I've had mine for years now. It can't be a tiny moth, or it would be about 7!

I don't think it's wax, but I'll give that a try. Bar Martini and olives, what should I use?...

PrincessGraceless · 08/07/2021 05:01

I know someone who had a moth in his ear, flapping around. Drove him mad. Went to a walk-in centre and they removed it with their special tweezers - but don’t try it yourself!

LemonySippet · 08/07/2021 07:36

I had this OP, it drove me absolutely bananas. I eventually found this YouTube video which sounds totally woo but after doing it several times a day for a couple of days it went so it was either coincidence or it worked. Hope that helps!

Soubriquet · 08/07/2021 08:02

If it is a spider, stick some flies in there. Poor thing is probably hungry and too tired to crawl out
