Can you tell me when the tide comes in at Rockcliffe tomorrow?
I looked online but it confuses me.
Thanks.

High tide is when the water is at is highest, so that's when most of the beach is covered. Tomorrow the daytime high tide is 11.30am.

So the tide comes in twice a day and goes out twice a day. So there will be 2 high tides approximately 12 hours apart. (It's either 11 or 13 I can never remember which....which is how it changes every day).

Jist after it gets to low tide it turns and starts coming in again. Ditto just after reaching high tide it starts to go out.

Problem is you need to know which part of the tide time that it runs fast, for example the place near me that does that is approximately an hour before high tide

Thesearmsofmine · 07/07/2021 12:32

The tide will start coming in at 5.40am and be at its highest point at 11.30am. Then it will start going back out again.

Would that depend on the terrain on the beach and the level of the water? I think it will come in faster if the beach is flat because a small increase in the height of the tide means that it flows over more of the beach as the height of the water is higher than that of the beach.

You also have to account for neap and spring tides as the difference in water height between low and high tide is bigger for one than the other. The 'tide coming in really fast' might only be visible at certain times in the tide cycle.

Neaps and springs is related to the position of the earth and the moon and the effect of the moon's gravitational pull. Have a look at the UK tides app, that will give more info for the place you're interested in.

It's about 12.5 hours so it gets a bit later every day.
