I’ve forgotten how to eat and cook properly!

I know it sounds ridiculous but it’s been so long since I had to do family cooking, and I rarely bother for myself, that I’ve forgotten how to do it! I don’t mean the mechanics of cooking, more the whole meal planning and shopping etc.

I had an operation last week and part of my post-op promise to myself is to eat better. I don’t know where to start! Has anyone else got out of the habit?

Could you use something like Gusto to start with so they provide everything and you just have to cook it? That might help get you back into the rhythm?

I could do, and probably should do - thank you for the idea @SleepingStandingUp! Just need to kickstart myself!

Either browse bbc good food website or buy a cookery Magazine for some inspiration. Then write down a few meal ideas with a shopping list and go for a leisurely browse. Pick up things that take your fancy and make sure you have a well stocked store cupboard so that you don’t get put off at the last minute because you don’t have the basics you need.

In the depths of the original lockdown I got a subscription to Simply Cook, really helped me get out of a rut and try new things.

Thank you for those suggestions. Is Simply Cook a Gousto type thing?

Ideal case scenario would be to employ a chef but I’ll be dead before that happens!

Simply cook delivers recipes and seasoning not the actual food so you still have to go that bit but it's only - few ingredients per dish, and you don't have to buy all the stuff that would languish in the cupboard for ages to try a different style curry for example. I don't work for them I just really like it!!
