Have you been to any of these, e.g. Knebworth, The Wall, Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pulse and so on ? Or a solo Roger Waters or David Gilmour show or Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets ? I haven't done any of these but I'd be interested to hear about your experiences, good or bad or mind-blowing! Thankyou.

I saw Roger Waters at Manchester Arena, he played The Wall.
It was about what you'd expect, slick but with a dark edge.

The Division Bell tour Earl’s Court 1994. Did not disappoint. It was everything we had hoped for. Obviously no Roger Waters but we saw him at Glasto 2002. I didn’t enjoy as much as don’t like his solo stuff but seeing people racing to the Pyramid stage when The Wall starting blasting out was a sight worth seeing. It was LOUD.

I stewarded at London Arena in 1989, guessing that doesn't really count! I saw them a few times.

'I saw Roger Waters at Manchester Arena, he played The Wall.'

I would love this!

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 06/07/2021 20:24

Saw Roger waters at Glastonbury years ago and the. At the Manchester arena. Amazing both times and probably two of the best gigs of my life!

For those of you whom have seen RW, how was his singing ? I fear he was never a gifted vocalist in the first place - a writer and bass player primarily - but I watched him performing Have A Cigar on YouTube yesterday and his vocals were weak and out of tune. Great musicians, mind.

I'm so jealous of posters who have seen Roger Waters live! I saw Pink Floyd once in Earls Court in the 90's, but don't really remember it.

Clem4579 · 06/07/2021 20:55

His singing was better than I expected. I remember the atmosphere being really heavily charged, even before the gig started just standing in the foyer. I've been to loads of gigs, heavy metal and rock, but I've never felt an atmosphere like that before.

Thanks Clem. To be fair, I wouldn't call David Gilmour a singer either - a virtuoso musician certainly - but his pipes are in better shape than those of his former bandmate.

One aspect of PF and associated concerts that I still find mildly amusing is the continued use of the large circular screen - aka Mr Screen - above the stage. The idea is a bit old hat now but I wonder how any of the acts would manage without it for a full concert performance ? I'd be interested to know if there is any intellectual copyright attached to Mr Screen and who owns it.

Apparently they once did a concent in St Marks Square Venice, imagine....

Purplefrizz · 08/07/2021 09:11

I’ve seen Roger Waters in concert doing The Wall, the atmosphere was something I’ve never experienced before and I’ve been to many many concerts! His vocals were absolutely spot on, but I do like his solo work anyway , radio kaos and the pros and cons of hitchhiking.

Oldraver · 08/07/2021 10:17

I've seen Roger Waters twice in 1984 and 2002. First time he had Eric Clapton as guitarist, it was a few songs of old including the flying pigs and the Wall and a few from The Final Cut (my fave). He then did his Pro's and Con's album which I wasn't familiar with at the time and now know is the album rejected in favour of the wall.

Second time was much the same. He was brilliant both times

Oldraver · 08/07/2021 10:23

I've also been watching his YouTube stuff he did during lockdown and thought his voice ok until he starts lecturing

Thegirlthatwanted2begod · 08/07/2021 10:52

I've been lucky enough to to see David Gilmour in 2015 at the Royal Albert hall for his rattle that lock your, was absolutely incredible, loads of division bell tracks, wish you were here etc.

I then was lucky enough to see Nick Mason's saucerful of secrets on their very first gig in Dingwalls in Camden in May 2018. 200 capacity!! (Setlist here www.setlist.fm/setlist/nick-masons-saucerful-of-secrets/2018/dingwalls-london-england-13edd145.html)

I then saw Roger Waters at Manchester arena July 2018. Loved the theatre of his gig and the flying pigs!!

Love love love Pink Floyd

Never saw them all together. Pink Floyd minus Roger twice, Roger solo twice, and Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets a couple of years ago. Went to a David Gilmour DVD launch which turned out to be Richard Wright's final public appearance (RIP).

All good, but the most memorable was the Pink Floyd exhibition at the V +A. In the last room High Hopes and Shine on you Crazy Diamond were played. I have never felt so united in a place with complete strangers as then.

WildRosie · 08/07/2021 20:55

It's interesting how a few backing musicians are common to both the Gilmour and Waters camps, e.g. Jon Carin, Chester Kamen and Tim Renwick. I hope they all managed to stay out of the squabbles!

Wish You Were Here is probably the one PF song that could unite strangers anywhere in the world. I would stick my neck out to say it is THE PF signature song.
