Which sounds better (teacher gifts)

I’ve got 8 teachers to buy for, 4 for 2 children. One teacher could be combined as both children have him but as it stands there are 8.

I’ve ordered some wildflower seeds to go in the cards and I’m going to have the dc write “thank you for helping me grow”.

I want to add a little something too like chocolates. This is where I’m torn.

Do I buy a large pack of individually wrapped chocolates like Lindt and divide them up between each teacher or do I buy each teacher their own little box of chocolates?

I was leaning towards the first option because I thought the teachers would probably get a lot of chocolates but now I’m thinking it makes me look a bit tight.

Which is better?

I think you are over thinking this. I'm sure they'd love either, just do whatever is easiest for you.

cocomelonz · 06/07/2021 11:19

I think it sounds like a lovely gift and doesn't need to be a whole box each. Like you say they will be overrun with boxes of chocs and biscuits

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 11:20

Thank you Grin

I’m an over thinker by nature and dh is no help for stuff like this as he doesn’t agree with buying gifts in the first place.

My husband is a headmaster and we rarely need to buy wine year on year. He would think it was sweet if the child wanted to do the seed thing, maybe a little bit twee if from the mum's idea rather than related to what they had been doing in school. Staff rooms are meaner than prison showers Grin

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 11:32

The school are very big on growing their own fruit and veg. My dc regularly come out with carrots or runner beans even flowed that have all been grown in the garden.

So they will either take them home and never plant them or plant them in their garden.

That's lovely. Can I go back to being a child and go to this school. I think it's really relevant and I think the teachers will appreciate it.

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 11:37

You’ll have to fight me for the space first Grin

I tried to get dd to go work for me and I’ll go to school but she wasn’t happy with that option

If the school are big on growing then give something to the garden fund instead.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/07/2021 11:42

Wild seeds is a lovely idea. I don't think it's twee at all. If they don't want them, they can plant them at school wherever they do the other gardening stuff surely. An individually wrapped choccie would be fine. I think you can safely ignore the thread the other day demanding strongly suggesting that teachers would prefer spa vouchers not grabby at all :)

Soubriquet · 06/07/2021 11:49

Yeah, definitely couldn’t afford that.

My darling ds wanted to buy his teacher a new computer Shock

He’s 6, so I’ll let him off for the ridiculous idea but he was sweet in the way he said about it. He said “I want to buy Miss C a new computer because hers is so old and I think it would be nice for her to get one”

In this context it is lovely and not at all twee. If it was clearly from the mum in a school without a garden and one of those mums, different. The OP is lovely, sorry for even raising that word, please erase it from your perception of me Flowers

When we lived in Saudi we once got a gift from a parent at the end of the year... Use of his private jet to get home to the UK for the holidays. My corporate job means I am not allowed to even accept a coffee from anyone Shock

We usually get an iPhone in December with our bonus. Not an apple fan personally and the company doesn't support them so not sure why. Last year oil was down so we got an apple watch. My 11 year old nephew must be the best equipped kid in Sunderland Grin

Sorry for hijacking, you sound so lovely. Every choice comes with a sacrifice. Being an expat means not always being able to find friends who are genuinely lovely, as you sound. Have a lovely summer holidays with your children and sincerely, all the very best. And overthinking and caring is so much better than not caring. Flowers

Hilarious , and so true !!!!! ( The 'prison showers' analogy ).
Orangeinmybluelightcup · 06/07/2021 13:49

I'm really stuck for ideas for teachers presents! Dd has baked biscuits before for the staff room but I'm not sure if we should in these covid times...

My DD got 2 return flights to New York for her 10 year service - I got a bottle of wine when I left my teaching job of 24 years!!!
Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 14:13

It's so funny, when I left a very prestigious job in the UK I was given a handmade photo frame which I love. It's all relative

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 06/07/2021 15:48

Just the seeds, no to chocolate, they will get loads.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/07/2021 20:46

@Cavalierqueen forgotten already :) Not forgotten about the spa vouchers thread though, which I know wasn't you. :)
