Cleaning windows

Outsides, ground floor, big windows.

What are you all using?

I had a Karcher steam mop which was tolerable but then it broke.

I had one of those, or several actually, and they all broke. There was a tip in the Sunday Times a few weeks ago from a window cleaner. Add a capful of Flash and a couple of drops of Fairy Liquid to the water.

I had tried for eight years to really get my kitchen windows clean, tried every product known to woman, and nothing got rid of what seemed to be a greasy film. I don't think the previous owner ever bothered. Anyway, I had a go with the Flash and it actually worked. They probably need another clean now, but I was actually surprised at the difference.

Flash floor cleaner? Good to know.

What are you using though? Guessing not a Karcher?

Brush, mop?

Quite honestly I gave up all gadgets and just use hot soapy water with a sponge and squeegee on a pole that cost about a tenner. Best results yet and far less faff than a marcher window washer.

I use hot water with a squirt of Fairy liquid.I wash the windows with a dustpan brush and then use a rubber squeegee to clean all the water etc off.

@DisposableNamechange

Yes, Flash floor cleaner. Then a sponge (I have Spontex as it was recommened during my long search for the means to clean these blasted windows), and then e-cloth window cleaning cloths (for the same reason as above). For what I've paid out over the years, I could have had new windows installed!

Thank you all. I have a window brush coming and I already own a squeegee, bucket and Flash, so if it ever stops raining…

I use sugar soap. They come up like crystal glass.

OhGiveUp · 06/07/2021 19:17

I use white vinegar in hot water and a squeegee followed by a buffing with a chamois leather.
They come up sparkling and take no time to do

AnotherKrampus · 06/07/2021 19:20

Oh, ok... I thought we're having a sing-along puts away Ukulele

Mollypolly2610 · 06/07/2021 20:44

I use fairy and car window screen washing liquid. Sparking! (Until the sun fucking shines and I see all the streaks)

@GloomySunday

I use sugar soap. They come up like crystal glass.
Doesn't that leave a white residue? It always does when I use it, no matter how much I try to clean it off.
GloomySunday · 06/07/2021 23:11

No, no white residue. I use the liquid form, perhaps that makes a difference.

SeriousNotions · 06/07/2021 23:26

Mollypolly2610 wash with soapy water first if they’re really bad otherwise I just use car windscreen wash and water. They come up great every time

Mollypolly2610 · 06/07/2021 23:38

@SeriousNotions
Thanks. Will drop the fairy.

I find the windscreen wash shines my stainless steel cooker hood too.
