Why does my period always conspire against me?

We've planned a day out tomorrow, bought tickets, DH swapped shifts etc, all looking forward to it.

My period was due Saturday but is now clearly warming up for a grand entrance :(

Yup, lying here in agony- sweats, back pain, migraine, heavy legs - tomorrow is going to be only amazing😡

EmilyEmmabob · 06/07/2021 03:43

Mine loves to show up on all the special occasions. My first one was during the day on NYE, I was going to a costume party which involved a flouncy dress - not easy to make bathroom visits. It showed up on my wedding day, our first holiday together and most recently, when I started my new job. This was probably the most inconvenient - day 2 and I hadn't navigated the break timings and where the bathroom was.
It just likes to join me on my most important days I think!

If you have used it before for other things ibuprofen can reduce your flow significantly. Start taking it the day before (after food/milk). Total game changer for me.

SmackMyAssnCallMeJudy · 06/07/2021 03:51

@Marmite27

Why will it stop you having a day out? I don’t understand?
Yeah, real puzzler as to why the arrival of a period might be debilitating for some women…. Confused
PattyPan · 06/07/2021 04:29

I’ve had cramps but no bleeding for the best part of a week now. I’m on cycle day 54. I swear my uterus is taunting me Angry

Strawberriesandcream21 · 06/07/2021 06:38

We're going away this weekend, I'm due wednesday so fully expecting an early arrival Angry

OutdoorPopulation · 06/07/2021 07:25

It must have been really crap on your wedding day.

We’re all ready to go. I’m stocked up with more products than a pharmacy. Pray for clean public toilets please!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 06/07/2021 07:26

I’m so glad I’m not alone. I thought this was something only I had the pleasure of.

Having to find a loo very quickly when away on on a day out is not always possible. Also add in the many things I need on a loo visit. It’s horrid anyway, but always feels worse when I’m on holiday trying to sort it all out. Worrying about sheets etc.

Itstheprinciple · 06/07/2021 08:04

My practice nurse keeps trying to persuade me off the pill. For this very reason, I'm sticking with it! I know not everyone can take it etc but it works for me so why would I change and give myself the extra hassle and inconvenience?

MistySkiesAfterRain · 06/07/2021 08:13

Bit of an old wives tale but having tonnes of raspberries or raspberry leaf tea tones the uterus and can make flow lighter.

A saggy uterus?! Yep I expect I do have that. Everything else is saggy so why not my uterus 😂
Laiste · 06/07/2021 08:46

@youngestisapsycho

That’s why I stay on the pill…. Can control them better. *@Laiste* did you have Pfizer? Apparently that’s is mucking up periods
Yes, Pfizer. I'm normally regular as clockwork.

1st jab - my next period didn't turn up at all and i skipped it completely.

2nd jab - p 2 weeks early.

Occitane · 06/07/2021 08:57

Mine too. It always comes early if we’re on holiday. I thought it was just me.

warmfluffytowels · 06/07/2021 09:02

Yep, I've just started mine Angry

Back and hip pain, cramps, fatigue - it's great fun Hmm

worktrip · 06/07/2021 09:06

My bloody wedding night and honeymoon.

MaMelon · 06/07/2021 09:35

Fromage · 06/07/2021 09:44

Until Marmite27's post I would have said EVERY woman's sodding period conspires against her. But I'm assuming Marmite27 is female and has periods and female friends etc.

Sympathies, OP. I count myself as someone who has generally got off lightly with periods but even I would be pissed off in your shoes.

All these years later, I've never bought Always after their tone-deaf, insulting, clueless 'have a happy period' campaign.

LindaEllen · 06/07/2021 10:07

Well mine makes me feel absolutely shite, in pain, flooding, plus I always get bad headaches and feel generally unwell. Not exactly ideal for a nice day out. Not everyone is like the women on the Always adverts.
Livpool · 06/07/2021 10:28

I am very glad I am able to take the pill continuously- i hate having my period.
When I was on one of my first dates with DH I came on 10 days early - while wearing white jeans.

Mother Nature is definitely a man!

CharlieWorkCharlieSad · 06/07/2021 10:34

I'm currently in bed. Day 1. Feel awful. So much to do too.

emmathedilemma · 06/07/2021 12:30

That’s why I stay on the pill…. Can control them better
yeah it's great, i've been bleeding every day for the last 9 weeks on it! I've decided I'm stopping it after today, enough is enough!

My (male) doctor said I'd been on it too long and refused to prescribe me any more.

The alternative he offered gave me severe mood swings and messed up my periods, but he wouldn't go back to my tried and tested pill.

Gained weight when I came off the pill, and now apparently I'm too heavy for the pill. Well, that was vicious.

meringue33 · 06/07/2021 22:01

Nsaids can lessen flow but not great for digestion, also you have to remember to take them.

When I’m on my period I can barely eat, everything makes me feel sick and rich food makes me run to the toilet. So a much looked forward to meal out would be totally spoiled.

5zeds · 07/07/2021 16:47

Ibuprofen is a total game changer for me. I only wish I’d tried it sooner.
