How can I watch Netflix on a TV in a room with no WiFi?

Due to having three teen dds at home, the main TV is commandeered by them to watch love Island every night. I have a TV in my bedroom but there is no WiFi in there (old house stone walls). Is there any way I can watch Netflix on it? I have a WiFi extender but it doesn't seem to help the signal in there.

Ethernet cable to router?

warmfluffytowels · 04/07/2021 23:01

Ethernet cable. We have one connected to our upstairs TV that goes through a hole DH drilled in the ceiling.

Onestep2021 · 04/07/2021 23:02

Do you have a mobile? Can you create a personal hotspot? (If it’s an iPhone you should be able to). You should be able
To then connect to that.
But be careful as will use your phone data..

Can you run a cable from your WiFi box to the TV or a laptop in your bedroom?

I might have imagined this but I'm sure there are things to send internet through plug sockets too. No idea how that would work though 🤷‍♀️

Probably not helpful, I know, sorry!

Bryonyshcmyony · 04/07/2021 23:03

It's an old TV and miles away from the router(not actually miles)

Powerline adapter.

parietal · 04/07/2021 23:07

The best for buildings with thick stone walls is to get a powerline extender. These are wifi extenders that can work over the household power lines. you plug one box into your router and the other into a power socket near your TV. The boxes communicate along the cables you already have for regular plug sockets, so when they work, it is like magic. But if different parts of the house are on different circuits in your fuse board, it might not work so well.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/07/2021 23:09

You can download stuff on Netflix (it does expire though).

Whenever you are near the router download a few episodes of a show and a movie, then do the same in iPlayer, and in 4 on Demand.

That should last a couple of nights.

Yes was just going to suggest this, we had to do when ds was home from uni when WiFi signal in the two far side bedrooms was shit.
LightasaBreeze · 05/07/2021 06:09

You could as pp says download stuff if all else fails, I download loads onto my iPad for when we go away in our caravan but try the other Wi-fi suggestions first and hopefully one will work.

You can also do this on a Galaxy.
swapsicles · 05/07/2021 06:38

If its an old (not smart )TV so you cannot use screen mirroring from your phone and the issue is getting Netflix you can use a nowtv box, a games console or some dvd players to get Netflix.
You will need to connect to the Internet so either a phone hotspot or long cable might do it, you can buy socket WiFi extenders, that would also help.

DoThePropeller · 05/07/2021 07:09

Download onto your phone and get a cable that connects your phone to your TV, I do this in a hard to reach WiFi room and it works well. Depending on your TV and phone you’ll need an Apple to HDMI or VGA cable.

So the data streaming from the phone is played over the TV? This might work

I think I have a chromecast somewhere. Might try that and the plug in WiFi extender thing talk talk gave us although I suspect it doesn't really work

Powerline. If your tv has an Ethernet socket, I’d just get a pair of plugs and don’t worry about WiFi; a wired connection will be faster.
Very simple to set up.

Make sure neither end is plugged into an extension cable which includes surge protection as that can interfere.

^ this, got them everywhere, they're brilliant!!

Meruem · 05/07/2021 08:30

Another vote for powerline. We had one room that we never got any signal but I wanted to put a tv in there. Works brilliantly and so easy to set up.

WeAreTheHeroes · 05/07/2021 10:59

We had powerline adapters and still had some areas where the internet wasn't great - old house with different electrical circuits and thick walls. We have BT mesh system now that works much better.

Bryonyshcmyony · 05/07/2021 11:52

Yes I suspect I have all sorts of obstructions to decent WiFi. Will try the plug in adapter and a chrome cast and see how it goes

It works!! Thank god. Absolute game changer. No more Love Island. Thanks all.
